My new 77 ski nautique is my first hands-on experience with teak wood. The boat had clearly sat for a few years before I got it, so the wood was quite weathered, grainy, and showing some grey patina. Last night I used a wire brush, and then just a tad bit of sanding with 80 grit. I want to preserve the grainy texture for traction but smoothed out a few extra rough spots. Wiped it clean and applied Starbrite. Dang, it's impressive how easily it comes back. Two coats last night and just now another coat, as it soaked in on some spots. That wood was thirsty! Part-way through and the before/after of first coat:  Two coats last night:  ------------- '93 Ski Nautique Black/Teal '77 Ski Nautique. Loved it. Let it Go. |

Looks goods. Next time you are out at the boat store you might look into a quality 2 part cleaner. You will be amazed, trust me. I cleaned mine and did a light sanding with 150 grit. You want to careful not to gouge the wood. You can check out my platform in the boat maintenance forum under "my Restoration".
