I have three kids two girls and a boy 11,9,& 9 I love them dearly especially when they are sleeping . What happens over time as parents do we get softer? It seemed to me that when one said No then that was the end of it?
When my kids want something they will ask ten times before I say either one of my classic responses
No Well see Ask your mother
This is what they hear
No keep asking on the hour,1/2 hour, 1/4 hour, every ten min till He says will see Well see means Yes Ask your mother I did she said well see Does any one out there have the same experience ?

Its a tribute to the strength of variable reinforcement. Like a slot machine you only have to pay out occasionally to get them to keep playing you.

That was an OMH original. I started with a completely different thought that came round to that tacked on the end. When I re-read it I found it remarkably inspired so I crap canned the rest!

I try to respond positively to all my childrens (13,11) requests.
Example Dad, Can I get a cell phone? Yes you can....... when your 18
Dad Can I stay home frome school? yes.... When you are the teacher.
I doesn't work for everything, and it frustrates the heck out of them when they come back with a Why can't I get something and I just say you can, I never said you couldn't but not until your, 18, married, have kids of your own, own your own home, sure when it's your car, when you start paying rent, and my best one is when I turn around with my butt facing them and say " as soon as you can get money outta here like the ATM you think I am!"

No worries Kirk, it only gets worse when they are teenagers, especially for the girls!!

uh, umm, well, when I was a kid I vividly remember saying all the time: "Does THIS "We'll See" mean yes or no?
The slot machine analogy is very good.
