All the above parts fit a 1978 American Skier with a Mercruiser 198 blue water inboard (305 2bbl) I also need a spare standard rotation prop for the same boat (1" bore ) . I would rather have original parts for this original boat . If you have any of the following please email me with your price shipped to ABC Discount Towing & Recovery Inc, 4737 Smithboro Loop , Mullins S.C. 29574 . abctowing29574@bellsouth.net    Thanks Keith 843-464-0616

I can still get the 6A6 from Correct Craft. The rudder I can get re poured from a source that has done it in the past. The other option is to use a newer style rudder with the trim tab.

Gotcha Tim.. If he wants I can get a hold of the company and see what data they have saved from old rudders.

My rudder shaft is true but it took a hit on the rudder section at slow speed and took a small hunk out of the forward edge when the rudder made its way out after hitting a log .Is there a shop that could repair this ? The coupler remained intact. I thought these were heat shrunk on the shaft ? Mine wasn't nor did it have a safety collar in place . I was at 800 RPM forward idle , knew I hit something on the front underside , put in neutral , next thing I knew we had a hard hit and rise up in the rear and no motion and were taking on water .I found a 6A-6 today in my parts stock from a Mustang 17 I parted out years ago . E-mail me your contact info and I will give you a call on Tuesday . Thanks Keith

A prop shop will be able to weld up the broken out section.

Yes, the coupling is a heat shrink fit. However, your's may have been fretted due to bad alignment loosening up the fit. You need the check the fit. It's a .000" to - .0005" fit. If you keep the shaft and it's straight, you most likely will need a new coupling half bored to match the shaft.

Then how do you know it's "true" as you mentioned?

If gone, I recommend the ARE shaft and coupling.

Keith,
Don't forget the shrink fit on the shaft. Using the old shaft, you will need a new coupling and bore it to match. Then, as also mentioned, I'd have to say the boat has been run misaligned fretting the coupling/shaft fit. Get that alignment down to .003" or less.
