This writer makes a stark comparison. The last paragraph is too sad...

I believe we are witness to the early stages of dismantling of the greatest country the world has ever known.

Darn it, I thought this was gonna be about barefooting!
The comparison is just not comparable. There is no comparison to the two incidents. The writer is "reaching".

I don't thnk the writer was comparing incidents. What I read was about the way 'aftermath' is 'caculated'. Of course, he who does the calculating...yes, has his fingers on the buttons.

The reasons our soldiers and ambassadors are heroes is that they understand the risks and knowingly accept them in service of their country. Oil platform workers are showing up for a paycheck and don’t expect to have to put their lives at risk so the foreign owners of the oil company can make 25 billion in profits that year instead of 24.998 billion.

Again, it wasn't about the event. It was about the machinations that came/are coming after.
And I'd luv to introduce you to an old boss of mine; he was a platform boss. Yall would have fun.
You must really hate cosmetics companies if you feel so strongly about the industry that pushes your boats. I did hear you quit wearing make-up.

I didnt say they shouldnt do it, I just think they damn well aught to do it right. If they purposefully slack on safety to save a couple bucks while putting to risk the lives of thier employees, and the livelyhoods of millions of gulf coast workers then screw em.. shut em down give thier leases to someone who is willing to make 24 billion a year. If it was a small company owned by you or I, then we would be in jail and bankrupt, because it is a corporation they get away with a fine that is barely going to cause a blip in thier stock prices.
Its not like they were drilling on their land.. they are drilling in our gulf. These shortcuts weren't about keeping people employed or keeping a company open it was about some middle manager hitting his bonus.
