What type of Transmission Fluid is recommended for a 1988 Borg Warner transmission? I looked at the Marine Transmission Service Manual in the reference section and they call out "ATF type A" I drained my transmission while it was out of the boat and I need to replace the fluid.

Thanks.......Tom

If I am not mistaken, Dex III or Dex/Merc.

Conventional ATF, Dexron/Mercon, not synthetic.

It's too slick, a marine transmission isn't like an automatic out of your car it requires some friction for the clutches to stick together.

Lucas is now making a fluid specifically for marine transmissions.

Thanks, I looked at the Lucas, it doesn't say wiether dex or Merc. What would you suggest for a Velvet 1:1 in a 77 Ski?

Oops, scratch that Lucas off the list, their spec sheet says it's not compatable with Dexron/ Mercon.   They have put a few new marine things on the market recently and that sounded promising as does the marine oil with ZDDP.
