| disconnected wire at oil sender still gage is peged all the way up. checked voltage on wire unhooked 9 volts hooked up 7 volts. Just got boat in dec. the sticker on it was 2006. and it has been sitting out side the whole time uncovered. hade to rebuild the whole trailer. found out the engine is not the original one m# and ser.# show engine is from a 1978. had to rewire the whole dash everything green from setting outside. got engine started last weekend and found oil gage problem. first cc so any help is apreceated. hope i didnt over pay for it. 1994 ski nautique. 350 hours is what gage shows payed 1,500 |

My guess is that the problem might be on the dash side. You could have accidentally connected the "S" Sender terminal directly to a ground. I found the stock gauges on my 93 to be a little odd. Pete was saying a while back that the gauge itself shouldn't have a ground, except for the ground for the back light. Because, the sender wire is essentially a ground wire, and the sender is a variable resister to ground (in this case the engine). Anyway, my temp gauge, seemed to have a ground terminal for the light, a sender terminal and also a ground terminal. If your oil gauge is the same way, you could have mixed them up (it would be easy to do). Long story short, a Sender terminal connected directly to a ground, would give you this pegging effect you are getting. |

I would now try it again after removing the sender wire from the back of the gauge,if it's still pegs the gauge is bad.
