All this "oil talk" has me thinking its time to change the oil in my air compressors. My large compressor is a 3 phase- Quincy, 2 stage, piston pump, The others are single stage piston pumps.

I just did a quick search on NAPA's site. It shows non detergent 30wt "air compressor" oil at $7.99 a quart!

Farm & Fleet shows Porter Cable AC oil for $4.89/qt.

O'reilly has a gallon of "Pure Guard" brand Compressor Oil for $12.99/ Gal.

What is different from any 30wt non detergent engine oil?

What oil do you guys use / recommend? Any reason not to go for the Pure Guard from O'reilly's?

ND does not suspend particulate in the oil. ND is made for engines/applications without a filter. Regular oil suspends particulate for filtration purposes.

Technically I should run ND in my push mower but I don't. Heck those things will run 100's of hours with no oil changes. I topped off my little compressor with regular oil not thinking. I would assume a compressor is much less vital that you use ND as opposed to a non filtered engine from the stand point that an air compressor has no combustion blow by.
