So there are all kinds of east coast and midwest reunions going on. Anybody ever get together on the west coast?

We've never put together a reunion from this site. Up until a few years ago, Correct Craft put on an event every year at Marine World, and many of us met there. I've also met severl people from the site who have stopped by my house in Discovery Bay. You are welcome to do so as well.
I've thought about trying to put together a group out here, several times. But two things work against me. 1) our kids summers are barely 8 weeks long, and we fill them up pretty well 2) a little thing called work.

No West Coast love - too far to make it to the meets on the other side of the country.
Sounds like we need a Lake Powell Meet!!!! Or Lake Tahoe Meet!!

If you put it together, I'll be there.
But, not too far to attend others. Towed my boat to Green Lake Wisconsin. Was an adventure and a blast.

So West Coast people - list the best lakes to meet so we can pick one and get something planned.
I would suggest Lake Powell or Tahoe - Just because the scenery would make it that much better. Any other lakes that would be about middle ground for everyone?
I have only been out twice this year :( Gonna hit Lake Mead up this weekend if the weather holds out.

Tahoe is a great place. But, it can be challenging for small ski boats, is very cold in terms of water sports, and, it can be a challenge to find lodging in the summer. Strictly for boat show activities, it's great. In addition to the annual wooden boat show, Riva and other have conducted their international reuinions in Tahoe.
Bass Lake would be a fantastic site. Somewhat like GreenLake. Unfortunately, the crowds would be prohibitive.
I think Shaver Lake, outside Fresno, would work. Not too many hotels, but a big campsite right on the lake, a few motels, and lots of private residences for rent.
Shasta is possible, but it's really big, and really spread out.
Maybe some place small like Buena Vista?

Hi All, Please allow me to stick my foot in my mouth here... This thread is 2 years old now... Looking for the perfect place may never happen.. Of course you need to pick a spot that is hopefully conducive to smaller boats, have a ramp worth using and generally a place to go during the day while on the water and perhaps a camp ground or hotel that everyone can converge on. If you continue to just ask for opinions, that's all you'll ever get, and in the end never hook up with anyone. Someone has to take the ball and run with it. Get 2-3 others to agree on a destination and post the dates... You'll find out that more people will come out than you think. Thats how all the mini gathering have started, and many sustained life over the years. Someone has to start them.. Green Lake, WI started in 2006 !!!! This reunion in central Wisconsin started out by a small group of us planning a weekend at a lake and within 3 years, we had 50 boats and 200 people attend.....
2015 is Dead,,,, In the South West??? Whaaaaattt... Just do it !!!!

I have read this post that has been running for years now and there has not been a West Coast Reunion yet. But, I am with Mojo on this, you just need to set a date and make it happen. I see that there are only 11 West Coast people who have posted on this site with BKhallpass having traveled the entire country to events. I ran the numbers in mileage to a center point from the people who have posted on here.
This location is in my back yard and I can not think of a better location for boats our size, for water skiing or boarding, waterfront dry camping (no hook ups), local lodging, home rentals, resort rentals and such. I am located just outside Lake Almanor California. The distances from various locations are Seattle to Lake Almanor 672, San Diego to Lake Almanor 653, Las Vegas to Lake Almanor 566, Salt Lake to Lake Almanor 633, Boise to Lake Almanor 539, Phoenix to Lake Almanor 850. These are all great distances to travel towing a boat. However, the distances points to the fact that lake Almanor is a central location for the West Coast. It is a very popular camping, skiing, fishing location and camp grounds are hard to come by.
I recommend a camp ground owned by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) called Rocky Point Camp Ground. They have first come first serve camp sites which are packed all season long and they also have two group sites that you can make reservations for. One site has 16 spots for trailers/motor-homes and 4 tent only area, pit toilets and no showers. The cost is about $500 a day for the group area. The smaller group area is $350 a day. There is also lodging within one hour or less for those not wanting to camp.
The other group site is a loop that has 10 regular camp sites also water front. I am willing to attempt to make reservations for this location if the group is will to make the trip. Making reservations can not be done until Feb-1 2017 @ 8:00 AM So specific dates could not be confirmed until after that time.
Another option is staying in local lodging and making day trips to the lake as our family does from our home. This may be easier to schedule as lodging would be easier to book by the individual This would allow selecting a specific date that may get booked prior to our group booking. There is lodging in Chester California and in Susanville California. I live in a very rural location and have quite a bit of parking for boats if owners were concerned about parking their boat over night at a hotel.
like most of you we spend our time in the summers hanging out at the lake with friends. So, the more the merrier and we will call it the West Coast Correct Craft Reunion. Let me know what you think.
I took photos today of the group camp area and the boat ramp and will post them.

We are now talking going to Powell next summer the first week in July, We will be renting the big daddy house boat staying a week. Only thing is we put in on the east side I think at Dangling Rope Marina ? and I'm guessing Craig your on the west side? Since I have not been there yet I don't know how far the group will go west.

I have never talked to anyone that skied Lake Almanor, I have driven past the lake. What conditions do you find at Almanor? It is very pretty in the pictures. Any Glass available? It is so far from everything I would think traffic is minimal.

As you see in the pictures the lake is glass. This is typical for early spring and fall. Anytime a storm is present there is enough wave action to sink a boat. I found a 20 ft boat two weeks ago left on a buoy sunk that appeared to have been in the water most of the summer and owners were not around. This is not common and it appeared neglect was involved in this case.

MrMcD. I am still trying to answer your question. I have had trouble trying to post all day. The answer to the question" is there glass at lake Almanor" is YES. 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM is almost always glass. If the wind is going to pick up for the day you will know by 10:30 Rollers from boat traffic can be an issue even on a glass day. Going to remote parts of the lake is the answer. Some times you have to chase the glass as afternoon approaches. Then if the wind was not too bad during the day the lake may return to glass for a sunset ski. Lake Almanor is at an elevation of 4500 ft.

My vote would be for Orwood Resort on the Delta. I looked at the pics of Almanor which is beautiful but my definition of glass is different. There is Secret Slough for barefooting...glass all the time. All day. There are slalom courses nearby...and sloughs branch off in every direction leading to many waterside bars restaurants and theres Ski Beach. Lots for boaters and skiers to do. Hotels nearby. Camping. And it's in Brian's backyard!

Andy,
I agree. Orwood is a great spot. When I was a kid, my Dad was a Commodore of a boat club, and we would have 50 families at Orwood, several times per year.
On the other hand, I love Jim's enthusiasm. We've been dancing around a get together in the west for several years, and no one, including me, has made it happen. So, if Jim is organizing, as he is already doing, I'm going.
One drawback to Orwood, is not much lodging close by for those who don't camp.
I've been to Almanor several times. Cool little old resort town. A few restaurants and bars. Campgrounds are great, but also cabins and motels at the lake.
Most mornings, hard to beat the the conditions. Afternoons, seems like it is alway windy as heck. Pretty much what we've come to expect at most of these reunion/gatherings.
Any time you are in the Delta with a few friends, let me know. You are welcome to stop by for an instantaneous CCF reunion. I live across the street from Rich Peters' old house, before he moved over to Diablo.

And, if you show up, they probably don't see many barefooters of your skill level in that town. Will be a treat for the locals. I know of a lot of great Slalom skiers in Chico and surrounding areas, but not many barefooters. Maybe they are there, and I just don't know. Regardless, I think it would be cool for anyone to see you do your thing. You might even get Jim and family started on the barefoot thing.

And there's Jerry over at Diablo Shores...these are all private lakes along the Delta.
Looks like for this get together they have settled on Almanor. Which is a beautiful lake. We don't have that clean clear water in the Delta.

Ok, the thread woke up. I haven't been watching the news,I thought maybe the West Coast had dropped off into the Pacific or something. I will see if the site will let me post today.
Lake Almanor is a lake that requires timing. As long as there is not a storm present, glass is almost always available between 7:00 AM and 10:30 AM. If the wind is going to come up for the day ripples will be seen by 10:30. At this time wave runners and tubers start appearing. Then the roller waves remain most of the day even when the wind is not blowing. I am going to see if this will post. I am tired of writing lengthy post and the site not allowing the post. Then I will add more later.

Alright, short posts seem to be working. The video that Glass seeker posted is great. it shows the West Shore and HWY 36 as it goes through the town of Chester. The is the 4 of July and the road is closed for a parade. It was only a few years ago when 100,000 people would show up the the 4 of July in Chester. That seems to have tapered off. Most local avoid the lake on the 4 of July as would be my recommendation. It would be all but impossible to find lodging, camping, or any water worth enjoying during the 4 th.

KX6D It would be nice to see the boat when it is complete and or what ever state it is in next year. Hopefully, this will turn into an annual event so you can bring it at another time. Unless I am missing something a Correct Craft Reunion is about an accumulation of PEOPLE getting together around a common theme The Boats Built by Correct Craft and everything surrounding that topic.
I sure that there will be people that are interested in the boating history, the classic boats, their beauty and correctness. Some will want to enjoy camping with their boat at waters edge, maybe even fishing. Others may want to tour the lake looking at the natural beauty and homes. Still, others will be along side me boarding their boat at 7:00 AM to fire up those engines and get on the glass to slice it, dice it, and shred it. This will be accomplished in on skis, boards, feet foot and/or skin. If the wind picks up kids might even be found on tubes.

I should be driving the boat or left on the dock but I keep going out and try not to get hurt. I have had major health issues and that has made me push even harder. I have had to add equipment such as a helmet and should ware a knee brace,
I took care of a lady in my Emergency Room who was mad as a hornet that she did not get up on a single and she was mad because she crushed a vertebrate in the attempt. She learner to ski at 55 and crushed the vertebrate at 72. I have a similar story of another 72 year old I met on top of Mt.Lassen snow skiing. They have kept me inspired.

I've been thinking about organizing/hosting a west coast reunion for awhile. Someone just needs to set a date and location and it WILL happen! Whenever, or wherever I'M IN!!
Posted By: JD ski

It appears that there are some people interested in a West Coast Reunion. I realize that many of you including myself need to put in for time off from work and need a date set. As I stated earlier. In order to reserve Rocky Point camp ground we will need to wait until Feb. as they do not take reservations prior to that time. Then it is a phone race to see if you can get the time frame you want.
To do that, there would need to be cash available in the form of $500. 00 a day for that area. This could come in the form of a sponsorship from a Correct Craft dealer or Correct Craft itself. I have not had any time recently to contact potential sponsors. This would only need to be done if the majority of people attending want to camp. The issue of camping and how many days needs to be discussed. Camping would be my first choice 2-3 day, a fri plus a weekend, or a weekend plus a Monday. There are other options.
If people would prefer to stay in local hotels or resorts and make day trips to the lake, there are public beaches that could be used. Using the public beaches would eliminate the need to wait until Feb to make reservations and have money available to reserve the group camping spot. This would also change the group of sponsors I would be approaching. From what I see being done in the East sponsors may or may not be used. The closest Correct Craft Dealer to lake Almanor is over 100 miles away although they may still be interested.
In some cases groups have reserved camping spots individually at a specific location all attempting to get a lake front spot or at least 3-4 lake front spots and others can use this area as a central gathering area. If individuals could all get adjacent sites (highly unlikely, people stand in line to get into this location, and it is the same for phone in reservations) or even sites on a specific date this would allow control of how long people decided to stay. Individuals could handle their own finances and the up front money to rent the group site would be eliminated. For my sake this would be the easiest but I do not think this would work out well for the event.
If anyone or company is willing to sponsor a day or part of a day speak up. Let me know if renting the group site is the direction you would like to go. This is my recommendation. If we get no sponsorship, the more people that attend will mean less money out of each persons pocket. If we can get approximately 15 paying individuals that drops the price to around $35.00 a day, times three days equals $105.00 for three days of camping at the group site.
I have put on events many years ago and once in a while you get surprised by the number of people that show up. Usually less than half of the people that say they will arrive actually show up. So, having a direction to go with funding is needed. and then a date. If a contact I have made comes up with a sponsorship as he has done in the past. All will be well and just showing up and having a good time will be all that is required.
So let me know if you want to camp (recommended) or stay at hotels or resorts. this will guide my planing efforts.

I have made a few attempts at obtaining sponsors (PG&E and Correct Craft) in hopes of getting the cost of area covered. PG&E just referred my to another department and I have not had any luck in that direction yet. I have not heard back from Correct Craft at all.

Alex47 I have not put on an event in years. In the past every contact I had with a prospective sponsor, I obtained some sort of funding. Either equipment was donated for raffles or funding. At this point I have not received any sort of return contact. Sort of depressing but not putting a stop to any plans. Just a change in the way to fund the event. In the worst scenario everyone will need to pay their share for the lake front camp area. The fee will depend on how many people show up.

Depending on the dates I am interested as well. We would be coming down from British Columbia. We can camp or motel whatever the majority want

Excitedly I went on line this morning to make reservations and noticed that the web page had been up dated. It now has a new date for the start of taking reservations that is Feb -6 for the group sites for a minimum of 7 days and longer. For periods shorter than 7 days they will not start taking reservations until March -6. People are interested. So anything is possible. The only good news I have had is a representative from PG&E did contact me and said they would like to help. Nothing specific though and I have not heard back from him.
The other issues are the awesome new snow pack that has arrived in the mountains. The West has needed this and it is beautiful. The brunt of the storm was slightly south of Lake Almanor. The Tahoe region is sporting a more than 20 ft. snow pack and in some areas over 30 ft. Just like the good old days. Lake Almanor region has a 3.5-4 ft. snow pack with much deeper amounts in the high elevations. This means lots of run off. I get the idea that everyone is rearing to go and would like an early spring (late May or early June) event to start the year off. Mother Nature is in control in the Mountains.
Early season on Lake Almanor especially after a big winter can be dangerous with lost of floating logs and broken docks. I start my boating season removing junk from the water and many others do also. So, sorry for more delays for a posted date. But I am not giving up and I wanted to keep you all posted.

The First Annual CorrectCraftFan.com West Coast Reunion has a date set for July 29, 2017. It will be located in beautiful Lake Almanor California. So get your reservations at a local camp sites or hotel. There are other places to stay in the area if you do your own searches. There are lake side lodges, private home rentals, and private camp grounds all on the lake shore. Chester is a small community just off of the lake shore about 15-20 min. to a boat ramp. Plumas Pines resort has cabin rentals and docking. Susanville is 45-60 min from a boat ramp. Greenville is about 20-30 min. from a boat ramp.
Come up and enjoy the cooler weather and cool clean waters of Lake Almanor. It is located at the foot of Mt. Lassen at an elevation of 4500 ft. In the mountains you must always be prepared for any type of weather, hot days and cool mornings and evenings, bring sweat shirts, and jackets even though the California Valley temps are reaching over 100 degrees this time of year. There will be more details available as the date approaches. Below, I have listed a few hotels and Rocky Point Camp Ground as just idea of places to stay..

Good morning West Coast members on this beautiful Cesar Chavez State Holiday. Just a little up date. Lake Almanor is so full that the boat docks have been closed. The docks are floating but the ramps to get to the docks are under water at the shore end of the ramps. It is going to be an awesome season. Since I have set a date for The West Coast Correct Craft Fan Reunion there has not been much talk on here about this event. Is this due to a lack of interest? Large distances that many would need to travel? Does the July 29 not work for people? Another possible date would be August 12 if that works better for people, let me know.

Hi JD, You asked a valid question a couple of posts above, and I wanted to respond to that. There are a couple reasons that I won't be able to attend, Distance is definitely an issue for me. ~15-20 hours of windshield time each way with 3 kids and a dog in the back seat doesn't sound doable at this stage of my life, although that may change for me as my kids get a little older. We also are laying out our summer with other groups in mind, a couple of church events, and Wake the World are both on our calendar this summer, and we have a conflict with the July weekend for one of those events. I do appreciate that you took the time to plan an event and a location.

I totally under stand the distance issue. Just got back from vacationing with the family and two dogs. We drove up to the Columbia River and then skied Mt Hood Meadows. Visited Evergreen Aviation museum in Mcminnville OR. That is one of the reasons I posted the distances in the post. But some people are into traveling and it works for them. I am in your situation and knew traveling would not work so putting the event on is easier for me.

I still don't have a final calendar. My Daughters end of season meet is weekend, and it is still to be determined if she will swim in the area championships 29th and 30th. Boat is in the shop as well. I probably won't know until next week, but it's not looking very likely that I/we can attend.

Thanks for the heads up. I have secured a water front camp site at Rocky Point Campground and will be using that as my home away from home until after the event, the Airstream is setup and boat is anchored right in front of the trailer.
