Im in the process of getting rid of this protec setup and going with a distributor. I know skidim makes a kit that says its for reverse and standard rotation motors. My question is how do I tell which one my motor is? Its a 1991 BFN with the 454 v drive.

What does the tag say? Should be one bolted to the intake and another one on the bellhousing.

Mine was reverse, what rotation prop is on it?

Not sure on the prop. How do I find out?

The motor is backwards of course, but when it's running the pulleys are spinning left, which means the flywheel is spinning right. Correct? So that's reverse rotation?

Any idea why skidim kit says for RH or LH, but if you go to buy a distributor itself it specifies? I'm just trying to get my ducks in a row before I paid $600 for a kit.

Have ya looked into Davis Unified Ignition ? (DUI)
2 wires EASY to install, a lot less cash.

That's actually the one I'm wanting to go with but want to make sure it will work because they only make them for standard rotation according to summit.

There is no timing chain in that motor, they run gear to gear so it has a regular rotation cam with a different firing order

I would caution saying that a RH 454 has a "regular rotation cam"... though it does spin opposite the crank. Its still a reverse rotation cam (meaning its a cam meant for a reverse rotation engine). Ive also heard it called "standard rotation reverse fire".

Either way, what it means is that the distributor gear does not need to be cut the opposite way for a RH 454... same dizzy works for both LH and RH engines (I have a DUI on our '79 BFN with a RH 454).

They do make them for reverse rotation. See http://www.performancedistributors.com/marinedui.htm" rel="nofollow - here .

Yes they do... but still not applicable to the RH 454 (no gear swap needed).

So I can or cannot use a standard rotation DUI distributor ?

I put a DUI in a gear drive reverse rotation 350(GM) in my Tique.
same dissy gear as STD rotation. Around $400-
