Any old posts with details how to remove a transmission on mid 90's ski nautique without removing engine? I had no luck finding any details. I have a dirty neutral that I was told needs a rebuild. Rebuild is a lot cheaper if I remove myself. Also, do I need to get alignment re-done afterwards if I do not mess with mounts?
Thanks for the help as usual.

Patrick, If you don't have a hoist to lift the aft end of the engine, a couple of bottle jacks between the exhaust manifolds and the main stringers work great. Unbolt the shaft coupling, the aft engine mounts and loosen the pinch bolts on the forward engine mounts. Jack the aft end of the engine up and you will have plenty of clearance to remove the trans. I have always found it easier to unbolt the bell housing from the block rather than getting the trans off at the bell housing since the pilot bore on the trans is pretty tight. Get the bell housing and trans out on the bench and separate the two.
Yes, you will need to at least check the alignment. Who knows, it maybe have been bad before? Check the alignment starting at the strut making sure the shaft is "happy" in the cutlass bearing when roughly centered in the log.
Don't forget to install a new dampener plate when you get the trans back.
Who's doing the trans rebuild?

Patrick - Another tip - During reassembly, don't tighten the damper plate screws until after the tranny shaft is piloted in the spline.
You can access the screws thru the starter hole.
