I have a great dropfeed HVLP gun (Iwata LPH-94)that I got ~15 years ago or so. It started surging a bit on the last paint job so I am assuming that a rebuild would serve it well. I went to the paint supplier today but Anest-Iwata no longer produces parts for it.  Anyone done a rebuild on one of these? It can't be more than a few "o" rings right? Any suggestions on "o" ring type? It looks like Mcmaster has them by the 100 qty... I am guessing since this is the first time in 15 years that it has needed anything, 100 "O" rings is kind of overkill. anyone have other ideas on where to source parts? I'd love to hear a couple ideas.... buying a new $600 dollar paint gun for a couple of O rings just isn't my idea of a good time.... |

Some local hardware stores in my area have o rings, maybe you have a good local one? Some guns have a packing on the fluid needle by the trigger. If yours does,that might be hard to get,but if your careful maybe you can reuse,that would not be the cause of the surging. Take it all apart and give it a good clean,you might have to soak it in paint remover. Gary, thanks for the tip... I do have a local true value that might have the o rings. I'll check there. I have gotten a couple of cheap guns in the past, but have been spoiled by this sweet gun for the last 2 cars and a ton of other misc stuff I have shot. The last was a soap box derby car for a friend. I'll give the o rings a shot. And see if that fixes the issue. Any idea how the needle packing is made? I suspect I'll need a new one. Any ideas on why the gun is surging if it's not the packing? Your manifolds look great by the way

Thanks for the offer John but I'd hate to dump this junk on to you  Kris I'd bet if your real careful you could pull the needle packing off and reuse. It seems to be alot like a shaft packing on the boat except its one piece and I suppose it uses the same principal. Maybe you can get on from another brand of gun to fit,check out a Sears or Home Depot and look over their guns,Sears are easy to get parts for as long as the gun is current. I don't think the packing is causing your problems,you must have either a fluid or air passage clogged with old paint. This isn't my last painting project, but I did have to blend a panel on it not long ago. I shot this car with the Iwata....  '69 Datsun 2000.... Shameless plug that it is for sale if you know of anyone looking for a rust free California convertible
