Does anyone know of a "job shop" for small quantities of hot dip galvanizing? I have searched and have not been successful. The last time I needed some small parts done was at least 30 years ago. At that time, I was able to meet the foreman at the back door of Empire galvanizing and he put my parts in a basket and ran them for me. They have tanks 100' long and do some pretty large pieces!! They have been bought out and I can't even get past the front gate nor get anyone on the phone!! I have plenty of brackets/pieces and square head lag bolts for my 1915 launch restoration project that need galvanizing.

Pete, find a boat trailer manufacturer that sends his trailer frames and parts out for galvanizing. Ask him to add your small parts to his. Just make sure you tag them in the manner in which he instructs you. When CC was making our own trailers, I send out a bunch of stuff, but nowadays it's more difficult. Plus there are fewer galvanizers due to all the blasted EPA rules.

This probably won't help, but I've taken small things for work to Southwest Galvanizing in San Antonio. They've done some stuff while I waited (most of the day). I don't know how small is too small, we do galvinize transmission structures and steel for complete sub stations so it may have helped their descision to do a milk carton full of pieces. It did seem like people were bringing in lots of one off things though.

Pete, we send out things to be galvanized I could check out who does ours. We sometimes use "cold galvanizing" spray from a can. I'm not sure how well it holds up though. Tony.

I lucked out yesterday after making a couple phone calls. I found a galvanizer in Milwaukee as well as Rockford Il. that can do my work.

The cold galvanizing does work except it's appearance isn't the same. On a restoration it's the appearance that is key especially for the judges. I'm not going to use a spry can on a project that will be ACBS judged. I appreciate the through anyway. BTW, I have used the cold galvanizing many times. I always have a quart available. I use it as a primer before top coating when corrosion protection is a concern.

Pete, I think we send our projects to Rockford also. Either that or somewhere in Peoria Il. Yeah I know the appearance of the cold galv is totally different. Good luck with the parts. Tony.

Valmont coatings in West Point, Nebraska will do custom jobs. They have a minimum but do great work. Lots of boat trailers and docks are among the many things try do.
