As a first time boater and proud Ski Nautique owner, I thought this was all going to be fun and games. Well thanks to the forum, I now have to wipe and vacuum the boat after every use, obsess over alignment and rotten stringers, and touch up every little defect in the gelcoat. It would have been so much easier to just get a beater I/O, grind the prop down on rocks, let the gel oxidize, hope it started every time, and not worry about tearing up the vinyl But after 3 straight boating days this long weekend with the family, kids having a blast on the various water toys (no tubes allowed ) and knowing I had one of the best kept boat on the lake, I couldn't be happier! Thanks for all the help along the way. Now back to wetsanding those gelcoat repairs Ron

My family thinks I am nuts.. been the same way my whole life. How do those trailer wheels look? A little vinegar in a spray bottle does wonders for water spots. Its a curse but your most loves you.

They missed out....these are excellent tubing boats.
I'm glad you're neurotic though. It's not just a boat, it's a Nautique. I like my boat more than I like most people lol.

Glad we could rub off on you Ron. Yeah it's a pretty common thing around here with these guys. I'm all smiles anytime I pull up in a gas station or dock at a marina and the compliments are abound on my "2001" boat. I enjoy it even more so when I inform them it's actually an 88 model and their mouths drop even wider.

100% agree. This site has turned me Neurotic as well. While my CC still needs a little work done to be up to CCFan standards My Supra is in dire need. Lots of hours racked up on that boat. Gel Coat needs major work done such as, filling in scratches, wet sanding, and then buffing and a wax. But she is a Good from far looking boat atm.

teach 'em to ski!
btw, Being neurotic with these boats has always been around. I bought my first boat in the late 70's.... a 76 Tique. It was housed in our one stall garage while our cars sat outside. My mom always got a kick out of something designed to get wet had to be inside.

I finally had mine out for the weekend with little issues. (long story barn find boat) Everyone hanging out in the cove were talking about it, even thought it's not the prettiest. Made the work worth while!

I too enjoy the comments I get on the lake - definitely a different crowd who appreciate these boats than the "jump start it at the lake" type of person. I would like to say no tubing because I'm a purist and don't want to ruin the water for the serious skiers, but in reality it's just too much of a pain to inflate, bungy to the swim deck, and wastes too much gas towing. And I think they're pretty unsafe unless you're the only boat on the lake. Thx Ron

bungee tube to ski deck? I use the pylon on both of my boats. I have 2 single tubes, and a huge 3 person tube that you sit in. Behind the CC you jump the entire wake and get awesome air. But the boat could use another 100 hp to be awesome. The Supra... Well, the tube literally flies/slips above the water going back and forth haha. But no jumping because, there's no wake!
My friend has been behind, Supra, MC, CC, and a few others. He says the Ski Nautiques are nice, the 2001's arent nice to ski behind because of the wake... He says the MC's pull you up the quickest and Supra's have the smallest wakes because of the step in the hull. Haha, sorry nautique lovers...

haha, maybe. But he knows his boats. But, why did CC put that v on the 2001? It seems to me that would make the wake have a step to it. My comp has such a small subtle wake, I haven't seen another boat with such a small wake. Supra put a step in the hull which really makes sense.

haha. Nice one Hollywood. He likes the Ski Nautiques. But the 2001's have a weird step to the wake. But my question, hwy did cc put the v on the 2001? I agree that would make the wake not best for skiing...

I agree that would make the wake not best for skiing... | Its called a padded keel and it helps the boat track and ride nicer. All of the Ski Nautiques from 1982 to date have had it, so I would not blame the 2001's less than ideal slalom wake (by modern standards) on that hull feature.
Are we seriously talking about tubing capabilities?

Thank goodness Pete is on vacation this week in the great north and his only access to the internet is at the local library. This thread could put him over the edge. He may shoot the library CPU if he gets wind of this thread.
