Has anybody found a source? These distributors are no longer supported by Prestolite. I have a broken spring on my 1983 Prestolite distributor and would love to find a replacement source. For now, I just bent out another loop on the old spring and put it back on, and the curve seems to be perfect! Boat runs great but I'm guessing I am running on borrowed time with that old, re-bent spring.

I have heard of people using springs from generic kits like this http://www.jegs.com/i/Accel/110/31042/10002/-1" rel="nofollow - Jeg's Kit with success. Any thoughts here? The kits all look the same and there are quite a few of them.

Are spring lengths and diameters generally pretty standard on these? There appears to be one very light spring and one much heavier spring. The light one is what broke and is now being re-used.

Here's what we're looking at (you can see the spring I bent and re-used sitting above the Edelbrock logo):

There was a guy last year on the MC forum who claimed to have gotten some Prestolite Springs from the factory (now absorbed by Mallory). Seems that info is either out of date or bogus!

From June 2008:

Did a quick search on Summit Racing and although they don't have Prestolite there were several other kits including a Pertronics. I bet you could make one of those kits work.   Recurving is experimenting anyway so I'd be inclined to buy a kit and do some playing around until you get what you want.

Ive played with recurving a Mallory (Mallory sells a kit you could try) and its kind of a PITA. Or, throw a DUI on that thing and really wake it up.
