How major are the repairs?
If it's just gelcoat you can get whatever you need at west marine. I just finished repairing my gelcoat chips, wetsanding and buffing the entire boat. Came out very nice, I was quite surprised at how nice the shine came back.
One word of caution is that it's not as easy as you might think to match gelcoat, even white is tough. I got my first gelcoat from Midwest CC, they said it was a match but way off, too tan. Then I bought one of those kits with all the color tubes so you can mix your own, Yeah Right. Then I bought some pure white from West and mixed in some of the tan I had from Midwest and got pretty close.
In the end I should have gone with Mini Craft and paid the $60 to have them custom mix what I needed. the only problem with that is you have to supply them with a chip of gel from the boat about size of a quarter. In hindsight I should have done that because my repair job came out very nice but I'm not happy with the color match. It doesn't blend perfectly with the original color, but I'm not doing it again.
I bought a heavy duty Milwaukee buffer with a 9" double sided wool pad to buff with, great investment.

Another option is to buy the gelcoat (matched) direct from CC. However, it is an expensive route because you have to purchase 1 gallon at about $180.00/gallon.

Dan: Glad to see you are "on" the site now. Of course you realize once on here you are obligated to keep us up to date with pics as you do your boat.
Planning on Norris yet? Get on it! Tell your dad and bro I said hi!
