I'm diving into a floor/stringer job on a 72 Skier. I've done a lot of reading on this site, but there are some things I can't find. One of the first things I'd like to ask is should I keep the vinyl covered 1/4" plywood floor sections?
I'd like to keep the boat close to original, but I haven't seen anyone else put a floor like that back in a boat. If I'm just going to glass in a solid floor, I don't see any reason to keep these floor sections. They are rotting and making a mess of my floor. If I don't need them for templates, to the burn pile they go....

Hold onto them. What sort of shape is the vinyl in?
The original construction consisted of a "solid" glass over foam floor, over which the removable wood floor was installed. Im not sure if the intent was to add impact resistance or it was the easiest/cheapest way they could finish it off, but its an important part of an original restoration- if that indeed is what youre shooting for.
ReidP just redid a '71 Skier in the original style and it came out beautifully. He used Nautolex "Shark" for the floor covering and its darn close to the original stuff. Hopefully someone has a picture of that boat- its a beauty. I plan to do the same with my '71 someday.
