Thankfully I have credit card protection. Yesterday I got a call from Chase asking if a purchase on my card was legit. Well it wasn't but, they new something wasn't correct and denied the charge. It was a on-line purchase somewhere in the UK. Roger, were you trying to buy something on my card? It's amazing how the hackers can gain access to info!

Pete, that's strange as one of my cards numbers was used 2 weeks ago in the US just to buy some small sports goods…my card company spotted it and called me to, its a pain as the card is shut down and there is a few days wait for the new one. I think the way they work is try the card number out on something small then if all is well hit it with a big item.

Roger, Yup, they shut down my card as well and sent me a new one the next day. Thankfully I do have another card I could have used. The only inconvenience with mine was one automatic replenish payment for the Illinois toll electronic system so it wasn't that bad. The hackers are in both our countries!!

First thing I thought when I saw this was,hey I got hit on last night too. Then I saw credit card--- nevermind.
What happens alot over here Roger is they go to a gas station and try the card first, that way if it is declined they are not face to face with someone. Credit card companies watch real close of where you go too. We were down at SJRR one year,I filled up at a gas station, then went to a liquor store and then when we were at a grocery store the card was declined. I guess thats why many gas stations now require you put in the billing zip code as a password.

Last year they got ours also Pete, and racked up 6 grand on three nice hotels before the card stopped them. As is most often the case with card abuse we were covered for the damages. Had to fill out a report eventually for the card company.

Gary, I think alot of the card theft on the net is from some other country than the USA or UK ...it’s easy to work through our countries on the net to make it look right.
That’s a good point about gassing up at a card pump... over here we have changed to pin numbers when using your cards in person, still not 100% safe as the crooks have now worked out how to catch that info or fool it... small difference here at most gas stations here if you pay at the counter you pump gas and then pay...I found in the US you pay then pump gas.
I think we will end up with some kind of scan...like an eye or something each time you use your card.

Pete, when my wallet was stolen out of my truck at the boat ramp I had a fraudulent charge phone call before I even knew the truck had been broken into! Chase is on their game in that regard.

Back when ours was compromised it was a shipping clerk that was grabbing the information off of the invoice (so we were told) and selling them through an escort in Las Vegas. The bulk of the sales were on our card were done on line so there again was no face to face. Once the CC figured out we had been hit a little sheriffs office somewhere in CA did the leg work and the people got caught. keeps on top of these things. She noticed baby furnishing and toys being bought for grand children we didn't have.
