Dave, if I remember correctly, the "normal" reverse rotation Ford marine starters dont play nicely with the Holman Moody... must be a difference in the bellhousing?

Im not much help, as I dont have access to any H-M's... perhaps someone with a late 60's/early 70's H-M will fill us in on any details they can share of their current starters, which might aid in finding a suitable replacement for you.

Just emailed Dave, They are in fact different. Valuable information I need to learn what might replace them.

I googled "Holman Moody starter" and guess what the first result was?

Not quite a solution, but perhaps a good clue.

Art knows and has told me but my mind is like a steel trap and I cannot remember.Something to do with the back half of one with the nose of another. He has mentioned if I had a problem just get the one you have rebuilt. I'll see if I can find it or I would think Dave would have his contact info

Dave, if you could post any identifying information on the starter that you currently have (so we know what does NOT work) that might help too.

That's my problem, I don't have the starter anymore...

I bought the wrong one and by the time I found out, it was to late to get my old starter back.

Doh!

I'd give Art a ring or maybe even Reid...

No I realize that. Im asking what starter you currently have. There are multiple ones listed for a Ford... you could at least clue us in which one definitely will NOT work on a H-M. Which one did you buy?

Tim, I will check the starter tonight for brand.

And yes I already spoke with Art.

Might have to give the big Reidp a call.

Bruce down here has a guy looking as well.

Will get back later.

If it is in fact the 2" cone that makes it work I can get that. There are 14 left in the world apparently in reverse rotation flavor.

I will credit Tim in the reference to the previous post! I have a bunch of starters from Arco here but they are all chebbies. They helped me identify them a when I first started so I could use them some day.
