I saw this boat at a repair shop . I stopped and talked to the shop owner He said the engine has low compression and is looking for a 302 or 351 from a newer boat ? He said its a Ford 312 interceptor is there any value in that engine? The owner of the boat thinks its worth 7-8k with the new engine? The overall condition is pretty good but it has non original modifications and I don't know about stringers. I know that boat and it's location Mikey.... Thought about stopping by coming or going to your place to check it out but the gate has always been closed. Mike were you trying to make this hard? Those pics carefully avoid most of the dash, deck, or stern features that can be used to tell one model from another. Its early 60s and its likely a 312 Y block, if that is original gel and he rebuilt the current engine he might get close to that value out of it. If its painted and he puts in a later engine it wouldn’t be worth half that. I see non original light, scoops and steering wheel. Probably more where that came from. Marks on hull and bright white color make me think it's painted, not uncommon for an early 60's cc- they were still on the learning curve for gel. Still a shame though. It's probably worth about $1k as it sits, maybe less. Anything the guy puts into it will increase the value by only a fraction of what he spends in time and material. The % he recoups would be a lot lower if he uses newer/non-original parts, but even an original restore will likely result in a negative ROI. If he wants to minimize his losses he'd be best off selling it now without touching it. As much as I love the early 16' glass boats, they just don't command much $$ even when they're pretty clean. $7-8k is pie in the sky pricing... aint gonna happen. |

As Roger said, definitely a Y-block. Having recently purchased a block and then going about sourcing all the parts to rebuild it, Roger would have best idea of what the value of parts would be. I picked up a manifold and two Carter YH carbs as shown in the picture for around $100. | The 292 and 312 parts are still available for rebuild. That manifold has to be pretty rare but I have no idea if there is any demand for the boat even if running perfectly. |

Engine wise allot of value will be if it’s a 312 or 292 could also be a 272 all had this carb set up only the 256 had one carb. If you can find a original tag with the hp that would help most had a sticker on top of the inlet manifold. 215 hp = 312 185 hp = 292 170 hp = 272 If it is a 312 block and crank $600 + have good value less for 292 /272 Heads will most are likely 113’s good posted heads, clean set on ebay $ 300 ......G code are worth more. High lift Rockers sets go for $175+ this will have standard a lot less value. Complete carb set up with valley pan,2 flame arresters,2 water outlets $650+(some parts are missing in the picture) Front timing cover $100+ Pan $130+ Good flat side exhaust manifolds $300+ Then if it’s an RR engine cam, gears,starter,ect $300+ Also check out the Tranny set up to see if its Dearbo C or VD both have value. As with most engines you will get more if sold in parts than in one lump but will take you time. It looks like the things that have been done to it were not done to keep it original . I know the top has been painted and holes were cut in the dash for the radio and speakers. I was thinking 500 dollars as is but the owner is thinking 7-8k. If they put the newer drive train in it will be worth 0 as far as Im concerned. |
