Is anyone using the interstate AGM battery?

I have a 1988 ski Nautique 2001 with the 351W

Is this a good Battery? Does anyone know the part number of the Right battery that I should order? Or should I just get a interstate cranking battery?

I know there's a lot of other good Batteries out there but I have a tie with a local shop that is giving me a good deal on interstate batteries.

Buy local y'all right.

The glass matts are great for what we call in trucking "Hotel loads"where you sit around for hours with tv,laptops,fridge and other things drawing juice and still start every time.I suppose they would be great for a boat but do they make marine specific or does it matter?Know they are sealed and more shock resident.

Unless you have a special reason to have an AGM, they aren't any better than a regular wet battery, they just coat a lot. There good if you need to mount them sideways and they don't gas much which is why I run the since my batteries are in the same space as the motor. You pay twice as much, but with a few expensive exceptions you don't get twice the battery or the life.

If I was one of those who sat in cove with big stereo blasting for hours or had other loads to consider may be worth extra cost but just for general use with charging system up to snuff no not worth cost.

I strongly recommend AGM's in any high priority vehicle mainly because of the before mentioned ventless off gasing. Far less corrosion with AGM over a wet cell. In a boat, the most ideal location for a battery is in the bow. Where else would it receive so much vibration and pounding? In a CC this is a main reason I'd run AGM bc they can stand vibration much better. Twice in my 31 years I've seen my dads '75 SN suffer from batteries splitting internally producing shorts thus shutting the engine off and leaving us stranded on choppy days. I believe AGM's produce lower CCA than a wet cell but do better on a slow steady draw like mentioned. Luckily your typical v8 only requires a medium amperage to roll a starter so lesser CCA isn't a concern of mine. More critical to low and slow charge an AGM.

I don't boat on big water often and have gotten good life out of typical starting batteries.

Group 65 is what fits best in the battery box.

I agree with Tim. I have also never caught on to the Optima jargon. I have seen a ton of those batteries bad here in the shop just in my short year and a half.

I had a standard Decka in and out of different boats for 8 years. I now have a cheap (not too cheap) oreilly super start in the boat on year 3 I believe. My batteries sit in the boat all winter in cold and warm storage disconnected with no trickle. I re connect in the spring and they have always cranked the boat long enough for it to hit fuel and start. I punish them I the summer with the stereo cranked up at the sand bar for hours but try to fire the boat generally at 45 minute intervals.

4th year on my wallyworld batteries just disconnect before cold store fire right up in spring don't even know if radio works never turned it on.
