How do I identify my distributer brand ? Prestolite or Mallory? I have a 89 SN with a 351 Windsor. It could be either right? It has two screws holding it down. Doesn't one brand have the clip down? I want to replace my points. Thanks for the help. No I don't want to convert to electronic. Tony.

Post a picture. Your boat would have had a Prestolite screw down. Prestolite also made a clip down version that PCM used through ~87. Both use the same points kit, only the cap/rotors are different. I don't recall Pcm using Mallory past the mid 70's (when they were still Waukesha). That doesn't mean someone don't swap your original out though.

I'd guess it's the original (screw down Prestolite) but it's hard to be certain from those pics. The caps are a lot more distinctive between styles than the points base plate.

Glad you are keeping the points in it. That would be an 87 and newer distributor.

Make sure you keep the advance mechanism lubed up. I forget to do that sometimes and have had it create an erratic idle circumstance. They recommend a few drops of oil in that little sponge in the top of the shaft under the rotor.

That 8 sided thingamabob is the cam right? Is it me, or does one side look a little worse for the wear:

It just looks like corrosion on the shoulder, it's the face of the cam that counts.
