I have not owned a boat yet, so I am new to most of this stuff. What all do I need to do to get it up and running for the season? Last year it did not see the water - maybe 1 hour logged. Has the Ford 351 engine with about 500 hours total on it. I also like this post if the boat is new to you...things to think about baitkiller wrote: The Holley will not bolt up on the Q jet bolt pattern without a new intake or adapter. You will also need to loose the wedge you most likely run now. Clean up the Q jet and run it for a while before changing stuff. An easy upgrade is the marine AFB that will bolt right on your wedge. it is a very reliable carb with the same performance as the Holley (IMO) if the Holley has a HP edge you'll never see it in a boat. The steel fuel lines, throttle linkage etc. etc, will all be a pain. If it were my new-to-me boat I would set the maintenance clock back to ZERO. By this I mean do all periodic maintenance so you have a fresh time line. I feel this will give you better return to dollar for the summer than a Holley carb. Cap and rotor Clean the Q jet All fluids and filters, including gear oils. Impeller Balance the prop and lap to the taper. Alignment and packing. New battery if older than 2 years. Clean all connections, dash ground etc. From you local I would also pull the risers to inspect / service gaskets. Be ready for new ones if the boat has been run in the brine.
