Hi all. A bunch of other stuff always seems to deter me from making any forward progress on my Mustang basket case. I would like to put out the feelers for a replacement motor. Currently the original 289 is good for scrap (long story).
It may be a tall order but I live near Lake Winnipesaukee in NH, if there is anyone in the area with some savvy in fixing up this old rig I would certainly appreciate any help I can get. I have done stringers and floors in a different boat but this is my first inboard project. Boat is complete less the front seats and those little wing windows but I can make those.
Thanks and lets all have a great summer!
if it was a car I'd call it a "rolling ugly" but since it's a boat I guess it would be "floating ugly".

How do you know it's a '65? What's the numbers on the stringer plate?

well, good question Tim. the seller called it a 65 so that's what I was running with. I'll take a look at that plate soon though. I managed to get it on a proper trailer then found that one rim was rusted at the valve stem. Picked up a Toyota rim that looks to have a big enough hub cut out to fit. Assuming that works I can pull it from the back land into the driveway for some clean out.

many years ago I stopped in to see Tom. when I mentioned I had an old correct craft he said "that's to bad". so I left.
I'll reach out to Joe though.

I got the opposite response from Tom last year; maybe he's mellowed in his older years. He did some stringer work for me and so far, I'm happy with the results.

we all have off days sometimes, I'm kind of a stickler for customer service though.. I drive by his place all the time and he certainly does nice work. I'll be handling the structural stuff, wiring and upholstery. Going to sand off the green paint where it's flaking (it was orange originally) and might just leave it kind of rat rod. It's the motor issue I need to get around.

Northern Tool & Supply has new rims (wheels) that will fit the hubs. Unless you are just going to trailer very close to home, don't use automotive tires. Usually they are not rated for the weight.
