I'm thinking about repainting my SN and getting vinyl stripes.

I have a '74 with painted '78 stripes, the stripes are not great and the paint has a few stress-cracks and so-on. Just really needs a pick me up.

Has anyone replaced the painted stripe with vinyl? I guess I would have to find a local vinyl decal place to make the stripes and install (I can't find any on line anywhere).

Painting the hull or (re)painting the stripe? Might want to rethink if the former. The hull is gelcoat, not paint.

Oh boy you are asking for a heap of crap from these guys by thinking vinyl. A good vinyl tape from a great shop can make it look good from up to 5' away. Closer than 5' you can tell. Don't forget the black shadowing. A PO re-did my stripes some 8+ years ago. They still look good. Would I do vinyl? No, only bc it's not original but I couldn't turn the boat down so the vinyl wasn't a deal breaker since stripes and font matched perfectly. There's a trick to doing the vinyl, make the arrow point down so the curvature of the hull doesn't make the vinyl make a radical curve

And somebody in GA is selling the vinyl stripes on eBay. As to the quality idk.

I just looked at your profile pic. If that's your current boat, that's an '80 and '81 scheme.

+1

There was recently another post (Craig's List finds) where the guys spoke about the problem with vinyl. This post was within the last few days. The side of the boat has several compound (?) curves. It is hard to take a picture and have a decal produced that will handle the several curves near the front of the boat.

Best bet is to find a 78 boat and draw a stencil and have a sign shop make a Gerber Paint Mask and repaint with Rustoleum Paint. This is what the factory did back in the day.

Yeah that's my boat.

I want to refresh the gel coat and repaint the stripe with a clear over all of it but $$$$$

I'm looking at upholstery skins now, seats are getting little cracks in them.

I get a lot of complements as it is now, it's just not as nice as I want it to be.

Clear coat the whole boat? Yikes, that's the wrong way to do it as well. Good thing you found ccf before you did some real damage to your boat .

Refreshing the exterior (the proper way) is not very expensive, just labor intensive and time consuming.

If I had a 1974, I would not put '78, '80 or '81 stripes on it.
And a 1974 would not have the black shadowing.

I called a local marina that does gelcoat refinishing and can paint the stripes.

I haven't taken the boat there yet, for him to look at and give me a price. I told him I want to remove the stripe and repair any surface cracking and a couple of chips and go back to the original stripes.

I'll let ya'll know!

I think this one looks sweet, I'm going to change the blue to red.

I have a question about the 2-tube looking things on the back that connect to the speedometer pickups, what are these things?

Pulsation dampeners for the speedos. There are PLENTY of threads about them!!! Did you ever bother to follow where the tubing goes????

My boat don't have the "dampers" but I've seen where some holes have been patched and the stripe painted over.

I didn't know what the holes where for, then I saw the dampers in the photos.

My tubes go from the pickups through the hull to the speedo's
