What is the most common issues with stern lights? Mine goes on and off and I thing it is the base.

Being a newer boat and in PA, possible corrosion in base but I doubt it. My money is it in the contacts at top on light pole especially if its incandescent. My '06 Carolina Skiff lives in the saltwater. I'm on the original base but probably the third pole.

Thanks I will take it apart to investigate... since it is windy and busy at lake.. and afternoon.. beers and boat tinkering time.

I rebuilt mine. You can drive out the back plug at the base that has the 2 plug contacts. Clean those up, and in my case I had to solder new wire from there to the light socket as well. Everything was bad on mine...lol

if the base is cracked from stress does anyone still make replacements?

Replacements should be easy to find. Nautiqueparts definitely has them, I'd imagine N3 and Christine's would as well.

Even at that, I think they are made by Perko and should be available many places. The CC dealer parts places would just have them organized by year etc. better.

Peter was right... just took some 400 grit to the contact points and some electrical grease.. problem solved.. then running late sets last night my boat wouldn't start... positive battery term was all crapped up... had to fix that but I want to find a pair of really nice battery contacts.
