It's superior to the automotive style core because now it's made with a continuous copper coil rather than the side tanks and the soldered fins of the old style. When I replaced mine with the Napa car version it only lasted a couple years as unfiltered water is much different than antifreeze as far as corrosion (I'm assuming).
