Just got the 95 back from Classic Craft in Sacramento, they fixed the damaged fiberglass perfectly. Not easy since the Black, Red and White were all needing some gel coat repair. Very happy with the glass repairs and color match. Invisible repair to my eye and I am picky. The stripes on this boat are lined with smaller stripes about 3/8 of in inch wide that are tape not paint or gel coat. My damage ruined part of the tape in both red and white on the nose of the boat. Do you guys know if this tape is still available. I am thinking of installing new tape all the way around. The shop spliced in the front 3 feet of the tape on the nose of the boat and I can see the splice and it bother me. If it is still available I want to replace all the tape. It looks like it might be hard to lay this tape on and keep it straight but that is my plan. Anyone else tackle the tape replacement? This damage was from the Deer jumping out in front of our car while towing the boat home. The boat came forward over the front stop bars on the trailer. BTW: The black rubber rub rail with a red insert on this boat was also damaged and they were going to replace it. The Red insert for the rub rail is no longer available. I liked the factory look so I tried to repair my old piece. I started with 400 grit sand paper, wet sanding, and sanded the rub rail and insert smooth. Sanded out the damage from the wreck. Then I dropped to 600 grit, then 1500 grit and then polishing compound. Took about 3 hours labor but it now looks factory stock with no visible damage. The Rub rail looked like we took a cheese grader to it and the Red insert was burned with black rubber, looked like someone spun their tires down the red insert. Both turned out perfect. |

Sounds like a good deal in the end. Check with Zach at N3 on the tape, I believe he was able to get it in rolls about a year or so ago. if the shop was able to replace the first few feet, they may be able to get that tape through a local body shop supplier as well. nice work on the rub rail! I am glad you were able to keep the red insert, that look is really nice to me. |

I tried to buy the tape from the repair shop. They say the colors are hard to find to match on repairs so they will not sell the old stock they have. They did say to check with Automotive Paint shops. I am ignorant, who is Zach and what is N3? Sorry I will try and get up to speed. Hard to believe but the two scratches in the nose and trailer damage will be close to $5,000 when done. I wish I was good with gel coat work. |

A good automotive paint supply should be able to match something from the 3M line. I did my '85 myself not real hard takes a little practice. Gel work is easy Mark,you really would be surprised.It's the color match that is real tough much like car painting. Good thing about gel is that the color does not change as it "dries" so you can mix it dab some on and check your match. Here is some work I did to my Mustang,a previous owner had removed the console and controls and added a side mounted Morse. Nice repair on the boat Gary, Thanks to all for the tips on the tape. I will have to order single rolls for this boat, my stripes are over 2 inches apart. Great information. I have a white stripe above the black gel color and a red stripe below it as you see in the picture. This also shows part of the rub rail before it was sanded and fixed. Happy to report the gauge in the gel coat is now looking good again.

Those stripes will actually be easier then mine were. My red stripe separated the gel colors but the black just ran an 1/8" above the red. On yours just run the tape so that the gel color line is in the middle of the tape. The different colors of the gel are your line to follow. |

Late to the party, all of the 1/4 inch stripe is still available from original manufacturer and color pallet. I use a different company to reproduce the double pinstripes and they do nice work and have a very close match to most original colors. The 150' x 1/4" rolls run about 19 bucks regular retail so apply a 10% off that. ------------- |

| It looks like the factory overlapped the tape on the nose. Is it possible to install the 1/4 inch tape in one piece so I would not have tape overlap at the nose? I would think it could be pulled around the corner without a cut but I have not done this job before. |

Mark, Overlap it like the factory did. The tape at the stem would be really stretched. Any place where the tape is stretched is a potential failure point. Technically True Pete... Zach is a great guy and is currently researching repo dash panels for my 99 Sport.. Ive purchased parts from both places... The owners of White Lake are good People.. Ive never Bought a boat from them but Diane and her Son David always reconize me and speak at the boat shows in Raleigh. Im a firm believer also of supporting site sponsers and understand what you are saying.. But in todays world its all about Boat sales i guess?? and i guess PlanetNautique.com somehow is maybe an asset to them because all they really talk about is newer boats.. I personally wouldnt care for one of the modern boats with the $2500 intergrated display system.. Thanks for the tips, now I need to identify the correct color and get some ordered for a Winter project. I understand my White Gel Coat is called Silver Cloud I don't know about the Red, I will check my Owners Manual and see if it is listed. |
