You can repair it, fairly straightforward.... but I happen to have one that needs a home. It's from a 91 SN.

If you need help, I suggest doing a search for the threads. BTW, I also suggest you finding out the cause of the backfire before you blow another one.
Sorry Steve if you really want to sell the one you have!

Thanks Pete.... Appreciate you lookin out for me... ha!
As we said, they are easy fixes and expensive to ship (size is awkward).
Use google search to find threads, not the site's search feature
example in the google search box;
site:correctcraftfan.com "muffler repair"
or
site:correctcraftfan.com "invertaflow repair"
Good searching..... and if you are passing through SW Virginia, I have one for ya.....

Thanks for the replies..
I may try the repair myself, however, if I am not happy with it, I will be driving through Roanoke around Thanksgiving..
I am fairly new to boating, and I realized after that I did not flip the blower switch before starting the engine (after not running the boat for over 2 months)...
I am no mechanic, but I am assuming this had something to do with it...lesson learned...argh!

Jim, The engine backfire blowing the inveraflow had nothing to do with not turning on the bilge blower.

Jim, The backfire may be a sign that the Pro Tech system is failing. Others will come along and comment. They are known to fail. Maybe having a mechanic look at it would be a good idea.

I think JPass could address ProTec failure......... He switched his. I'll confirm they are "ticking time bombs" - see my other posts with that same comment but regarding used ones as parts replacement.
ProTec failure is a timing failure... should have performance/starting issues.. Is all good with the engine? You didn't mention backfire....just Pete did.

Mine never failed, but had leaking coil packs. I replaced the ignition before it crapped out on me. I figured 22 years and 1700+ hours of run time was above average life from the ProTec ignition system.
I think you may want to double check your timing when you have some time.

[QUOTE=malcolm2] Let's hope this goes well, but I am just about ready to attempt a big time repair of my muffler on my '92 Nautique. This fall a backfire during winterization blew out my muffler.

Couldn't have said it better Jeff. Mufflers are just another potential point of failure.

The look of that style Invertaflow have always bugged me. Seems like a giant wart back there.

My apologies for the delayed response. Thanks guys for the advice. Yes, major backfire once I restarted it after parking my truck. Luckily, I was just 10 ft. from the dock, so recovery was easy. My "septic tank" looks exactly like the posted picture! The engine is in great shape (351 Ford), so I do not have much to offer on that end. The only recent repair was to replace the ignition switch.
