My Brother has a 40 ft Motor Sailer (Florida Gulf area). Apparently the riser gasket leaked internally on the 120 hp Ford Lehman diesel. I told him about home brew penetrating oil but didn't help - after 3 days, he gave up trying to break it free. A $12,000 rebuilt crate engine is on it's way to him.
Hard lesson on manifold maintenance I guess.

Keeping a boat in FL saltwater seems to be quite expensive... See 52 sec in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OU7WJOnEXg" rel="nofollow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OU7WJOnEXg

If there's room under the dog house, this is a case where full (manifolds too) fresh water cooling would save the manifolds.

I mentioned "full" fresh water cooling which does include the manifolds. It's more expensive primarily due to the extra plumbing and larger tube in shell exchanger to handle the extra BTU load.
BTW, if there is sea water backing all the way up into the manifold exhaust cavity, then there are other issues - you're sinking!!

Plenty of room under this people house!
I think his piggy bank got crushed buying the new engine, a new heat exhanger not in the picture. Maybe I'll get him a Benj-Flush for Christmas. Mumms the word guys!
