Rather than pile on the "Mustang followed me home" thread further, I thought it best to start a thread for the few fans of Holman Moody engines here. This article may be of interest to some. I know there are a few fans here. I am not suggesting that these are the best marine engine packages, but the history of the company and the depth of its involvement in racing makes a good story.

My Family always told me that in the 70's HM invented an aspiration system, maybe a carb, that was quadruple the efficiency of the times and more powerful and in order to patent it/market it they had to drive it to Washington DC. When they arrived Big Brother slapped them with trumped up tax charges etc and that was the beginning of their troubles. Maybe just a rumored story as I never seen concrete evidence other than IRS was after them.

I'm afraid the carburetor story is urban legend. There is a finite amount of energy in a unit of gasoline. 14.7:1 is pretty close to the perfect AFR for maximum efficiency ( stoichiometric mixture ). Even with the micromanagement and efficiency of modern engines and fuel delivery systems we have not achieved that level of improvement. Hate to break your bubble but there is and never was a carburetor grinch.

Efficiency is nice but doesn't accelerate a load.

John,
I wanted to mention that if you post any more links to a "short story" that it will eat up all my computers memory!
