I put this thread on here because I felt is didn't go in General Discussion. Anyways, On the lake last summer I saw a 40s-50s Chris-Craft and it looked amazing. What are some of your favorite old school boats? Mine would be a 23' Wooden Tahoe.

I grew up around a lot of old wooden boats but never saw a windshield like that. There's a lot of slick looking repro boats out there. Perhaps?

You need to ask him what Chris had a port helm and the curved windshield.

Yup. Remember that one well. The boat above it was before my time. That's my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather in late 50's. Got a big framed one on our wall and I still stop and stare at it all the time

Justin - I like the wood inboards too, still remember seeing them when we camped at Devil's Lake, WI back in the '60s. There are still a bunch of well kept woodies at Lake Geneva. They have a great boat show in Sept (Pete is one of the judges).

Speaking of wooden boats on Lake Geneva, there is a manufacturer in the area up there called Streblow. They make, or made, beautiful wooden boats. I believe the owner of the company died within the past few years, and now his family only restores existing Streblows.

Check out this site....

That's not the Chris-Craft I saw. Those pictures are of a 23' Tahoe. Tahoe's are My favorite wooden boats. My Dad and I want to build one in the near future. I was just saying that I saw a Chris-Craft on the lake I go to.

elitecraftowners.com has lotsa great photos, but no port helms. Rivas all port I think.

Guy brought an Elite to CCFan gathering on Lanier, real nice boat but with all due respect I think they look a little fake.

Not many woodies in GA, but Lake Rabun up in the mountains has a lot of old money, so quite a few real beauts there. Was once standing on marina dock with owner and this guy pulls in in this georgeous classic design but something just wasn't right, so I Say "A fake, right?" He laughs and says the guy spent like $100K and thinks he's soooo cool, but everyone knows it's a fake, so nobody pays any attention to it.. drives him crazy

Also Pete, This year in the summer I'll try to get some pictures of the Chris-Craft. It sorta has the same color scheme as your Atom skier (Which is an absolute beauty!). Here is a picture that looks sort of like it. But it's not the cobra the back pointy part (don't know what it's called) is taller and thicker and longer.

Randy Streblow died about 3 years ago. He was a very nice man and a great craftsman. I didn't now him well but he was kind enough to take me and a friend on the delivery check ride on "Necessity" the year before he passed. The owners (in the second cockpit) didn't know us but welcomed us aboard since Randy knew us. I have always been impressed with Streblow boats and they are a staple of Lake Geneva. Here is a photo of Randy at the wheel showing the new owners what the boat will do. We were in the back cockpit and got completely soaked. It was the best ride I have ever had in a wood boat. That thing screamed. It is near the top of my list. Randy always welcomed us in his shop and showed us around even though we made it clear that we were only dreamers.

Justin,
Regarding power, you are probably thinking about some of the racing hulls Ventnor built. The typical model for the public had flat head 6's. Ventnor liked the Gray Marines. In rare cases, they would put in twins.

Justin,

You may already know this, don't know if you got that photo from its source page or floating around the internet, but if you didn't know it, that particular boat is a Glen-L Zip. You and you dad could whip one of those together from Glen-L plans as a practice boat before taking on the Tahoe. I recognized the Zip because they (including that one in particular, which was very well done) caught my eye before. I like their lines. I was wondering if it could be modified to accommodate an inboard.

Thinking of old times, my family used to vacation at Cushman's Sea Island Lodge on Sea Gull Lake and my dad's friend had a place nearby on Saganaga Lake in Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) when I was a kid. We always brought the runabout to ski behind. It's been a while since that was a thing.

Not gonna lie, I joined when I was 9 and had little knowledge. It wasn't this account it was some random name I came up with and I never posted because I was scared keith would ban me from the site for not being a certain age . I stopped going on for a few years, then I created this account and now at school all I do is talk to my motor-head buddies about boats, cars, trucks, dirt bikes, quads, anything with an engine I love. I know this getting of topic but Dirt bikes probably interest me the most. A lot of my family has hondas. But I started looking at Yamaha TTR-125's. They're beauty's. Back on topic, what appeals to me the most is just the sound of the small/big block engines. I want my dads boat to cheerish with my kids how amazing boats are!

Larry,
Just in case you don't know but certainly for others as well, your friends boat is a Racing Runabout. I believe Chris built just over 200 of them available in a red & white or a blue & white. Chris also planked them in 3/8" instead of the typical 1/2" to make them lighter in weight. They got about 45 MPH out of the 158 HP Hercules/Chris engine.

Justin,
Your profile states you're in Illinois. http://www.blackhawkacbs.com/" rel="nofollow - The Blackhawk chapter has two shows per year. Look for the dates on the site. The Geneva lakes in the fall would be a good one to attend. I hope you can make it and if so, I'll look for you.

I'll try to see if I can make it happenn. Hope to see you there.

LOL. well thanks glad that thread is still being enjoyed, it is due for an update in a few weeks but if you really want to see the Hurricane in person it will be in Green lake this year, running and giving boat rides.
