What does pcm use to fill the automotive dipstick hole in the block. It is on the port side rear in a moon shaped cut away.

Mine has had a rubber hardware store plug in it for years - it's possible the industrial blocks didn't have them.

It looks like the casting is thick enough to tap for a taper pipe plug.

On some engines I have seen plugs that press in like a block core plug only smaller.

zacley, Small brass plug. If you want, put a little countersink on top & bottom and JB weld it.

Exactly what I had in mind Pete.

I would also suggest using a hex socket head pipe plug. You could tap the proper depth and not end up with a protruding head.

The Welch Plug if available is certainly the preferred choice. Saw the same question over on a Ford Mustang website / forum. One suggestion was to use a spent brass - 9 mm Cartridge casing. According to the information provided it is easily swaged into place using a hammer and a drift punch.

I went through this yesterday. I tapped it and installed a 1/8" brass pipe plug. no Brainer. Home depot had the plug.

Jody,
I'm glad to hear that someone used a proper method of plugging the hole and didn't pound some old shell casing into it. I hope the person on that Ford site did mention to use a spent casing rather than a live cartridge!

The guy on the Ford forum with the spent cartridge casing idea had already buttoned up his oil pan and installed the engine before he found the second dipstick hole in his block and could not tap the hole without getting metal shavings in his new engine. I think he knew it was a hack fix because he joked about having a "bullet" engine rather than a "billet" engine...........

Never thought about shell casing. I had a bag of spent brass .38cal sitting right on bench.
