I'm starting to prepare for the boating season and the time has come to get some parts / components in order. Questions; 1. Is there a cheaper place to buy a rub rail (other than go2marine)? Looks like it would be about $300 to do the 176 there. 2. Who sources the original "removable" swim platform brackets? 3. I need to replace the vinyl (I think its vinyl) trim tape on the stipe of my boat. It's 1/4" and I'd need 45ft of it. 4. I need a late 80's #3 trailer. Anyone have one? Cant help with #1 but that almost sounds like "too good to be true" pricing... Make sure it's the same stuff! 2. Alloy Marine. Be prepared to take detailed measurements, their bookkeeping is horrendous. 3. Depends what color you need... Might be available on eBay if it's a commo size/color, else check with Zach. 4. That's going to be very tough to find, but I don't recall having enough information to be sure that's what you want. A delux #3 (83.5-89) may be too wide for your garage opening (~96"). We know an earlier non-delux #3 (92") will fit, but haven't confirmed the inside fender dimension to know if your boat will squeeze into one. |

What about the color insert of the rub rail? Maybe I can just replace that. Nothing wrong with it except it's faded and looks pink now. ------------- 1999 Ski Nautique 196 |

We replaced the rubrail for our 176 last summer and it was a surprisingly easy process. Our boat is teal and purple and the rubrail was purple (or was supposed to be... somehow it turned into a grayish color and definitely needed to be replaced.) They don't make the purple anymore so we opted to just replace it with black. We would have just replaced the color insert but they do not just sell it that way, it would have been convenient but... One option you could try if just taking and flipping the color insert so they the sun bleached color isn't visible. We just got a 196 sized rubrail and cut it off, they do not sell a specific one for the 176 size, it was very easy to just cut off the excess at the end. I am pretty sure we got ours for around $300 as well so I don't think they come much cheeper. As for the pin striping sometimes we can find it at our local auto shops, or sometimes they can order colors if you bring a swatch in, especially if you have a generic enough color, otherwise ebay is a good option. If you're looking for a cheap option I would recommend just flipping the insert, especially if the casing is still solid and you heat up the rubber. We've done it before and it works really well! ------------- My escape is to just get in a boat and disappear on the water. |
