Ok guys??? I made a test run today to see what I needed to fix before summer. Well I new I had cutless bearings as well as a leaky shaft seal.I had a little more vibration than I remembered so I got back home and started the removal of drive shaft and flange. Well!????? the shaft was loose in the flange and the key had been very side loaded and the flange is shot as well. Cutless bearing area is worn and the log area on the boat has been touching the shaft as well. So I need a new shaft and flange.... who has the best price on the ARE shaft and should I go with the OJ drip less seal while I am there since the shaft has worn my gland packing sleeve as well??? My cutless bearings should be here tomorrow but I need to find a shaft ASAP.

Randy,
This is a classic case of running a DD boat with bad alignment. Sorry to hear of the problem. Since the ARE system is made to order, I doubt you will find one in stock with the proper length. Call them directly and maybe they could tell you who may have one.

The alignment will be important but also find out what cased it. Check the condition of the stringers.

What you talkin bout Willis!?!   Am I supposed to be doing something with my oj dripless shaft seal special for winterization? My winterization is a bit on the light side, I pull two engine plugs, two manifold plugs, and if I think about it the hose off the bottom of the pump. I think I have had my OJ seal for 6ish years? I always assumed it just self drained out the bottom?

You guys are reading it wrong,it's after he dewinterize's ie gets it ready to use which makes even less sense unless he means that he forgets to reconnect the water feed hose

Well my plans for today is order a ARE Shaft and a dripless seal. The OJ as far as price is very attractive but is it as good as the Nautique dripless seal? I will take the Flange off the Trany and sand blast and paint except the matting surface and pick up some new bolts and washers.
Boat did run good yesterday though ! New carb and intake really woke it up in the Mid range. Running 35 when u gas it its like hitting a passing gear in a car.

BEFORE I FOUND MY SHAFT PROBLEM
