I'm pretty sure that the steering cable on my '85 2001 snapped.
I checked the rudder and it's still connected. If I pull the rudder 'in' the steering wheel turns. If I then turn the wheel the rudder goes 'out' again, but then won't go back in.
Anything else it can be, anything I should check, before ordering a new cable?

And any store/dealer where the cable is less than $300?

Thanks!

Make sure the clamp block is secure to the cable, it should be under the removable rear floor section I believe

Hi, thanks. Yeah checked there and that all seemed to be OK.

Any tips where to get the cable?

And Zach will ensure you get the correct cable, not a 17' one that will "sorta work"...

Had a friend coming down to CR from Miami yesterday who brought it for me from Miami Nautiques. I should be wakeboarding this afternoon again! :)

Thanks folks!

Replaced one last week thanks to Zach.

Remember to pull the new cable up through the bilge. Makes life much easier. Trying to force it down from the dash doesn't work.

+++1^^

Also, the new cable nuts I don't believe are fixed. If it moves down the cable duct tape it to the end so you don't have to fish it through later. That's basically impossible.

Of course I read this when I came home, after the job.
The nut was -indeed- not fixed. I found out after I pulled the cable through. Pulled it all the way through though, with a rope attached to the end to pull it back.
I pushed the cable from the bilge/pulled under the dash. No problems there. Just took a while to adjust the steering wheel to a (kind of) straight position. Good to go again!

How long do steering cables normally last btw? Mine lasted about 3 years I think. Expected it to last much longer.
