looks like my 78 ski nautique is in need of a harmonic balancer. would the balancer be the same for a reverse rotation motor as a standard rotation motor?

Mostly - but the timing marks will be backwards it even possibly in the wrong spot. There are a couple threads on here somewhere that discuss possible automotive equivalents

Get the Ford part number cast into it,Google harmonic balancer repair. There are some places that exchange them or can rebuild yours.

In Anderson CA there is a company called Damper Dudes and I believe another called Damper Doctor, I think it was one company and the two owners split.
They rebuild dampers. The large machine shops use them as a main source.
I know one is still in business if not both. Probably a one week turn around to rebuild the one you have.
