I am having an intermittent start issue on my 99 GT40. Most of the time it starts great but sometimes it wont fire or it starts and won't hold an idle and shuts off. If I start with throttle pegged it will then fire. No issues in gear or at idle once running. I replaced the fuel filter and the problem subsided for two weekends but it happened once this weekend. Thoughts?
Fuel pump is my first thought as I have read a bunch of threads. Could it be the relay? Is the high pressure pump in the FCC? If not, what is the part that is in the fuel filter in the FCC and where is the high pressure pump? Which pump is for starting? Assume the other is good since I have no issues while running. Any help is very appreciated as I have a big weekend coming up. I plan to buy parts tomorrow or Tues.

The high pressure pump is indeed inside the FCC. Your correct that the thing inside the FCC.and inside the fuel filter is the high pressure pump. The low pressure pump sits right beside it. Both are needed. The low pressure pump keeps a good supply of fuel to the FCC and the high pressure pump supplies pressure to the fuel rails and therefore the fuel injectors. When it doesn't start how are you certain there is no fuel? You can attach a gauge onto the fuel rail and leave it there while your running to check. Zip tie the gauge to the coolant hose to keep it in place and easy to read. I chased an issue like that all last year and never found the problem. It hasn't happened.since rebuilding the motor this winter.

Where are you in NC ? my first thought would be to change out the relays. It is pretty cheap and easy and they do go bad.

I'm in Winston Salem and boat is at badin lake. I'll be back there thurs evening. Would love to change relays next as a cheap troubleshoot. Not sure where they are or what I need to buy as I seem to see different models and placements on the gt40. I went to autozone and tried to get one a couple of weeks ago but it looked nothing like the pic I saw on nautique parts. Which relays to replace?

Ok I am in the Asheville area. On the back of the engine there are 2 relays next to where you plugin the the tester. take one off and bring it to Napa I would just replace both. they run the fuel pumps and something else. I always keep spares. I also have a Harbor freight fuel pressure tester. It plugs into the fuel line on the intake. Comes in handy when Isolating problems. There is a thread here outlining GT40 problems ..

It doesn't hurt to replace the relays, but its probably the low pressure pump... because it is usually the low pressure pump
