Beyond the pacific northwest, the farther east you go, these days Doug Fir becomes harder and harder to find. Some yards or home improvement centers will say they have it but be careful. Chances are high that the lumber will be Hemlock which is part of the SPF category common to construction. I needed some Doug for a rustic farmhouse dinning table I'm building for up north and did find it in Chicago. Anyone doing a stringer job and having a hard time finding it, contact Harry's Lumber. They specialize in carrying it especially in long lengths. 2x8, 2x10 and 2x12 up to 28'.

Pete
That's the way you have to buy it around here is in long lengths and 2x10 or mostly 2x12. If you wanted to buy say 2x6x10 or 2x8x10 you wont find it in doug fir.
They sell it around here for floor joist or stick frame tall pitch rafters.

Sweetwater Land and Lumber if you're down east.

It's in the Austell area west of Atlanta, and the phone # is here on the site somewhere.
