what kind of coil do you guys recommend using? I have a 78 ski nautique with 351w and need to replace the coil, just looking for options. thanks

Depends on if you are running through the ballast resistor or not.

yes it currently has one but depending on what coil I go with should determine weather or not I need it or not correct? I ran it without the resistor and it started to overheat the coil, with the resistor it seemed to not get enough fire. currently has a MSD blaster 2 coil

You say it "seemed not to get enough fire". What tests did you do before throwing parts at it? What were the symptoms"

had very poor throttle response. it would die when trying to pull a skier up, once I did away with the resistor it seemed to do a lot better

Dusty,
"seemed to do a lot better" isn't really a test!    Did you consider the problem may have been the carb?
