Just wondering what everyone uses for trailer axle grease. I have a prestige with Sure Lube bearings. I have heard that mixing the wrong brands together can cause the grease to break down and become watery from the additives in it (although I don't know what those would be). A mechanic told me he really likes Lucas red and tacky grease, but then others will say grease is grease. Thoughts?

Another worry to keep me awake at night . I always just looked for the green marine grease, not brand consistency.

Almost all the trailer greases are lithium based.
See chart, that is compatible with most commonly available stuff..
Like anything else, avoid the cheapest & the most expensive options.

Just my philosophy, the most expensive products usually are providing features I don't need. The cheap products don't perform well, Median price range is the way to go.

If your running long distance in hot temperatures a good quality red grease would work well for you. If you do short trips and dunk it a lot I would go with a good quality marine grease like listed above. I've had great results with this http://crcindustries.com/auto/?s=SL3120" rel="nofollow - http://crcindustries.com/auto/?s=SL3120
