Found this head in the backyard. No body to be found. Zoom in, holy crap look at those teeth! See head size in comparison to the shovel it's sitting on. Pretty spooky, can anyone identify it?
South Atlanta suburbia but pretty wooded. Yard and part of woods fenced Dog was out but shows no signs of a fight. Coyotes spotted around every now and then but, again, dog would probably show some injury. Cats kill varmints occasionally but guess they woulda lost to this. See a lot of hawks so maybe it was airmail, but would have to be a big hawk if carrying it whole.......ideas?

Count the teeth, adult dogs should have 42 teeth vs 30 i think. Isn't there an in-house vet here? I'm just an aspiring taxidermist.

No it looked pretty intact before i chucked it over the fence to keep it away from the dog. Seemed fairly light, with no blood or guts and nothing around it. My wife went over to see what the dog was messing with.......

just put some latex gloves on, vapor rub under your nose to block the smell and go to town. Unfortunately cats and dogs both have 6 incisors which is what I appear to see. I'll be in Atlanta shortly, store it in the freezer and Ill give you $15 for it.

First reaction thought was some sort of mutated wild boar/feral pig but everything is way off, especially the REALLY long canines. I am not thinking dog tho...

You know I kinda thought that too but the teeth look canine. Feral hogs/boar certainly reside in georgia. The largest ever shot was only about 10 miles away. 1200 lbs.
Kinda wished I hadn't chucked it over the fence but as it's gonna be high 90's today, don't think I wanna see it again......if a coyote or something doesn't get it maybe next year I can sell the skull to Ripley's.....
It is a little disconcerting to find this thing in my fenced backyard....don't think our dog or cats got into it, other than a little nosing around. Woke up this morning wondering if the Australian Shepherd had turned into Cujo overnight. ..oddly enough the head has almost the same mottled tan/brown/black coloring as his does.
Who's the vet? Isn't air206 or maybe another NC guy?

Interesting creature Pete. Tell me, Rhinelanders also fond of mushrooms?
So still a bit perplexed, took a good look at my cats when I got home, and while it may have been a cat, with the head size and the giant choppers there's no way it was an ordinary house cat. Seen a lot of things around here, coyotes, armadillos, cotton mouths, copperheads, even had a bear cross our yard once, not beyond the realm of possibility it was some little feral cat or lynx or something. Of course if air206 pipes in he will probably debunk this whole theory. ..

Maybe someone stole a wolverine from the northwest and realized what they got them self into.
I am bored and can't write another line of C# today. About the only images I can find with a similar snout width, eye location and ear placement.

Gotta ask, what is "writing C#"?
I'm like obsessed with this thing. Have looked up all sorts of stuff including wolverines. One thing I did see was a fisher...not from here but yikes that looks like a bad mofo. There seems to be a hog-like ridge from brow to nose on this thing...so .weird.
So.....Lake Champlain has Champie it's Loch Ness Monster equivalent (beautiful lake if you've never been)...Wisconsin has Pete's Dragon (perhaps imagined from an overindulgence in shrooms and cheese)...maybe I can glom onto this thing if I could only find a good name...then make enough money off it to buy an ostentatious spork-bow boat and be forever banished from this site....wish me luck and been nice knowing you all!

I lost a decent client today so feeling the money stress today. Still a small startup. Me, myself and I at the moment. It always seems to work out in some magical way. You can certainly tie up the boat by yourself but skiing and driving it might be tricky. But maybe you can adapt this thing onto your boat.

Definitive is not possible with a picture like that.......... Looks like a Maine Coon cat skull to me. Teeth are wrong for rodent or porcine. Ears carriage and placement are incorrect for canidae. Likely a big, long-nosed cat .... (could also be small bobcat since you guys like the exotic.... don't know what Bobcat-like cats you have around there.....)

Yes that occurred to me.. . A while back my drinking buddy across the street had a coyote in his backyard. He ran after it with a machete and it leaped/cleared his tall fence in a single jump. Not something I would have done but he's an ex-French Foreign Legion sniper so pretty crazy. (also a former multi-national European special forces Muy Thai kickboxing Champion, good friend to have ha ha)
So I'd guess it was a coyote, or airmail from a passing bird of prey.
