Well after several attempts i finally got it to work. Had several paint gun issues and then some Gelcoat material issues but over the weekend i was able to get it laid down pretty nice. Using DA to dry sand with 320g then wet 320 400 600 and then 1000g liquit polish on a wool wheel. Its coming out pretty good. DA sure makes the wet sanding go quick. will be painting the color on it this friday then flip it over the following weekend and install engine. |

Steve, I've never had any luck with inexpensive guns. I've found that top of the line guns with proper sized fluid tips work best for me. parts loose inside of it and the tip and atomizer dont seal well unless you torque them down. nut behind trigger kept coming loose and would back out and not let trigger pull all the way. after issues were corrected it worked pretty good. boat is upside down on trailer, i was able to coat the whole thing in 2 hrs, used 2gallons of gelcoat and only coated 12" from bottom edge. rest will get paint. prior to this it was not going down heavy enough and it would not kick. top layer stayed sticky, clean off with purple stuff and power washer and found bottom layer had cured so sanded down with 150 and hit it again, same result. third time was a charm. bonus is that it had a good base coat that finished covering all the blisters that i ground out and filled. i calculated to get 18 mils of gelcoat i would need to lay down .29 ml per sq inch. 500ml for 3x4 area worked very well. its likely 20 to 16 in some areas but 18 most of it. |

after i flipped back over on thursday I wet sanded with DA, 600/1500/2000 then 2 grits of polish. I can count hair on my arm in reflection. Will get one more level of polish and foam pad for final before wax. |

final shine will be with foam pad and fine cut polish. will wax at the end of the year. White is gelcoat and blue is PPG Delfleet Essentials which is a 3 party polyurithane enamel. Should have seen all the blue that washed down driveway and street after wet sanding. |

thanks top side will be the real work can wet sand flat areas with da however the small and faceted surfaces will be all hand work |
