I have a simple problem that I don't know the answer to.

I have a nail in one part of my swim platform that is going through the platform and sticking out the top deck and I am not sure what the best approach to fix it is.

I can remove and replace the screw with a slightly shorter screw in the same hole or I can screw the screw into a new hole.

Secondly regardless of which option above I choose, is there any need to try and fill the screw hole

Because we like pictures

Here is a picture for illustration. I have highlighted the screw location with a red circle. (Now with a clearer picture)

Zoomed out of platform
.

Here is a pic of the platform before cleaning and oiling.

yep. it'll close up on itself a little over time, won't be as noticable

I would recommend a screw that is one size larger and 1/4" shorter. Put it back in the same hole. Might want to do more than the one as there are likely several more (all?) right behind it.

why stretch out the hole if the old one still bites...

likely only need to remove a 1/16" which you won't find screws in those lengths. grind as needed...

The teak strips are thin as is you go shorter you're going to lose engagement at the pointy end... Don't bother buying new screws the ones that are in there now are doing the job just fine. The problem is the screw is too long, not too skinny. Fix the problem.

Boy it sure is easy to spend other people's money...

It's not the money, just the time to go find the right screw.

I'll look a little closer but I think this one screw may be the only problem, It looked a little different too the rest, so I think it may have been a badly selected replacement.

I used these washers on my 89's platform that had similar problems. You will find that the counter sunk head has buried itself below the surface of the timber.

I agree with H/W.      Also, if the hole bothers you. Famowood makes a Teak color wood filler.   Just in case it (the hole) decides not to swell closed.
