I just rebuilt and installed my Velvet Drive. After starting the engine and running it for a bit, I tried to shift it into gear, but the lever wouldn't budge. I know never to run it out of water to not burn up the bushing, but I just had to see if it would even spin before I go all the way out to the lake. It's definitely internal because the cable shifts just fine without the cotter pin holding it in. Any ideas?

eeww, doesn't sound good. Can you move the lever when its not running?

Will the lever move if it's disconnected from the cable?
Did you pull the lever when you did the rebuild?
I relaced the oring in that shaft not too long ago and as I recall, there's not really anything to bind it up (unless the pieces weren't put back together correctly).
I think the lever just moves the shaft to allow the oil to shoot through one hole or another.

jimbo, you are right, there is nothing in there to bind, which is what had me confused. i just got back in town, pulled the switch and control valve, and found a broken switch cam. The tab on the end had broken off and was jamming the control valve. Any ideas what would have caused this?
The good news is that it spins freely without it. The bad news is that I'll have to wait a few days for a part. Again.
