Most likely frozen in Pete. It's 59 here at 9pm. Miami has shelters for the homeless open tonight!

Haha, its all a matter of perspective Pete. Here 1000 miles south of you it's 26 degrees and blowing like hell, pines are knocking big time and wind chill is 15.
Having spent most of my life in New England, was just telling a neighbor the thing I miss the least is standing on a ladder in a blizzard with a snow rake pulling off the snow...... ...
If this keeps up here I'll have to find my gloves. ..

Even though it's an old 3 season cabin and the roof structure isn't what I would consider engineered to todays standards, I've never felt a need to. I can honestly say I've never heard of anyone having a problem. I feel the practice is overrated??

Didn't do to prevent collapse, it was an old cape with a hot roof so the ice dams just above the gutters made the house leak after a heavy snow.....always thought about removing the gutters or putting up wires but then we moved south.

Got it Jeff. This is the first full winter for me up here but so far no ice damming even though there's not much insulation in the ceiling. Then again, we haven't had much snow ether! An old trick for ice damming is to fill old nylons with rock salt and drape them on the roof at the roof projection. It's the same principle of the heat tape but no electric. If needed, I will do that for this winter before the house renovation. CQ is sending me up his old nylons.

Damn near hit freezin here on the central east coast of Fl. No bragging today or the last couple about the wonderful weather here but it will change in a few days.
