I dont want any more Protec limp mode issues this year. i have a 94 PCM I know everyone loves the DUI distributors, but i cant afford that this year. Is there anything wrong with one like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Prestolite-7020S-Ford-351W-Point-Type-Marine-Distributor-E5JL-12100-CA-/262304643003" rel="nofollow - Link ? What else would i need? Ballast resistor? ect?

Thanks!

Cap/rotor, points/condenser, coil, ballast resistor, plug wires, wiring to hook it up and brackets to hold the ballast resistor and coil.

That Prestolite is very reasonably priced and should serve you well. Be aware that the DUI costs will be higher but greatly simplified- has internal coil and no need for the resistor, so it's just a 2-wire hookup (+12v and tach signal).

I just purchased a conversion kit and will be installing it on a '94 Ski Nautique.

ScottZ:

I've got a '94 Ski Nautique and I put the DUI unit on last year. Love it. It was the easiest distributor I've ever installed.

Cameron - You might want to consider having that prestolite recurved.   I got a similar one off of ebay (albeit EI) & had a shop recurve it to give 24 degrees of advance by 3 K RPM.    It was only about $30 for the service.

I am installing the Mallory unit. I have had it for a couple of weeks and did not learn of the DUI unit until I saw it in another thread the other day.

What is the price difference? The DUI is pretty simple to install and it works really well. Just asking (I've already gone to a DUI).

I replaced my PROTEC last year with the PCM conversion kit. It has never run better.

You need to have some basic engine understanding to install it yourself. I have a friend who builds drag cars and he did it an about 1.5 hours start to finish. Also, the guys at skidim provide great support.

Good luck

The DUI is pretty comparable, price-wise, to the SKiDim kit.

The distributor itself is a max of $460 for a 351W with the more expensive reverse-rotating gear. $385 for the same with a standard rotation gear. Wires cost about $60.

Howdy,

Sounds like you are headed down the distributor route. My 94 quit completely so perhaps my broken wire issue was more straightforward than what you have going.

However - I did resurrect mine and found some relevant data plus made a few notes.

You might want to take a look - files are huge so put 'em in OneDrive ...
