In the process of deleting the invertaflow on my '89. Do I need to wrap the new hoses in carpet? I assume the carpet is either for abrasion resistance or sound deadening.

Sean,
I don't feel the hose needs to be wrapped. The wrapping with the carpet scraps was done over hard exhaust tubing and mufflers to reduce vibration that would have caused abrasion.

Thanks. I think I will wrap the Y and leave it at that. I have to cut the 4" hose back anyway so the carpet will already be there..

Sean, Where did you source the Y?? I'm interested in any noticeable changes when done. Considering Y for my 90 Ski. Thanks. Todd

Todd,

Seems I've seen http://www.starmarinedepot.com/centek-exhaust-y-fitting-3.00-x-4.00-x-14.00.html?gclid=CjwKEAjw_7y4BRDykp3Hjqyt_y0SJACome3TDrURH3_Zjl2o1WcH21tzwG4iKdFIZ2g9ng2SC_IgUBoCQUvw_wcB" rel="nofollow - this one referred to most often when this topic comes up. They are pretty proud of them.

I got the Centek one 75 Tique referenced. Overtons had some on clearance a few months ago for $112 including shipping. They also come up on Ebay once in a while. The exhaust hose arrives next week so I should be able to run it after that and see how it sounds. For some reason the '89 is significantly quieter than the '92. There are a bunch of pin holes in the invertaflow that I have fixed once and keep reappearing so that gave me an excuse to get rid of it. The '89 has less HP and smaller diameter risers but I didn't think that should make any difference sound wise. I wouldn't do this to the '92, it sounds great as is.

Larry,
I agree that they sure are "proud" of those Y's. I think our composite that's an expert at fixing airplanes should make a mold and go into the business!

Still not the biggest rip-off in our universe, Pete. This thing gets the prize for that. But what are you going to do? Small price to pay to be able to walk and feed yourself I guess.

I took my invertaflow off my 93 SN last season and had read multiple forums that people reported to use a PVC wye which is what i went with. The Centek wye was just too much to cough up. I also left the carpet on my hose to reduce any abrasion as well. Looks much cleaner under the motor box and sounds way better, definitely turns heads at the launch!

PVC in the exhaust?   If you ever have restricted raw water flow, it will melt in a hurry.

Why not fab one up out of S/S?       3" to 4" adapters are readily available in S/S

Yup and very risky considering the Y is below the waterline.
Seth,
How many bilge pumps did you install?
