I have a 1974 SN with a bent shaft. Currently it's an A.R.E. Shaft system. 50-1/8" x 1". Can I run a stock shaft without the stock couplers? Thanks

Matthew, Stick with the double taper ARE shaft. If you went back to a single taper you would need a new coupling half.
Welcome and how about some pictures of the 74!

Anybody heard of Turn Wright Machine in Cape Cod? Talked with him yesterday. Half the price of new shaft. He has a bunch of you tube videos. Wish there was someone closer who had the skills to straighten. How do I post pics?

I have a single taper shaft out of a 80 SN with coupler. Measures 50-1/8" You will have to pull motor or at least lift high enough to slide shaft from inside to install. $75 plus the ride.

Heading to Back to the Fifties in Minnesota today. Figured there's way more boat people there. So I started calling around and found a prop shop who has a machinist who is going to straighten my bent driveshaft!!! Basically drop it off tomorrow and pick it up next week before leaving town. It'll be $250 labor. It's called Formula prop and marine. I will post the results. Should be around half the price of a new shaft. Cheers

Subtract 10% and you're at $370 for a dual taper ARE from SkiDIM.

10% off for being a member here!? I was looking at prices between 5-6 hundo online. I called skidim for a price. Still waiting for a call back. If I had a cream puff vessel I would buy a new one. Mine probably has close to 100,000 hours on it. Thought it might be helpful to others with piles of bent shafts too??
