The engine light on my 1999 196 with 555 hours just came on. Boat is well maintained but seems to be dogging now that the light is on. Gauges (oil pressure, temp) are fine. Any idea where to start?

Sounds like you might be in the S.L.O.W. mode, you may just have a bad oil pressure or temp sensor but you'll need to check. http://www.correctcraftfan.com/Downloads/Pro_BOss_GT-40_Service_Manual.pdf" rel="nofollow - The service manual ,linked here, is in the reference section on the site. It is in section 2A-10. I think you can disconnect them to check if it runs better but you will need to check that out to see.
