Ok I have a 1973 skier still on the original motor with 1200 hr on it and she purrs like a kitten. have crack on passenger side exhaust which is a original that came with the boat on the thermo electron package. Have looked around for a replacement but all I can find are in worse shape than mine. Pretty sure im just gonna change out both sides and be done with it. Figure I give you all a chance to tell me what kind I should run I have got nothing but good advice from you all and is cool to have the input of all your years of experience. What brand and model best fit for a 1973 skier with 351 w on board ? and any pros or cons that I should be worried about it has straight pedro hose now so no mufflers :)

I don't think your boat truly has a 351, probably a 302, but either way makes no difference with exhaust manifolds. I'd buy PCM manifolds from your local dealer.

Using PCM manifolds are an option but if you like the looks of your current setup and want to keep it the same you could check into having your manifold repaired. Several here have used http://www.castmetalwelding.com" rel="nofollow - this company and were happy with their work. Not cheap but then everything fit as intended and looked the same

Thanks everyone think I will just go with the new pcm parts already had problems with the end caps and drain plug holes time to upgrade. As far as someone commented that was not a 351w that it was a 302. I was told by the owner that this was a ss boat and says national tow boat on the stearn ? he had for 38 years and boat was taken care of still original gel coat all around. From all the original tags and serial numbers tells me that its a 351w? Now is there a reason for the 302 comment or did they come with both 351w and 302 id sure like to know? thanks everyone for there help

Tags can be changed but here is the easiest way to tell if you have a 302 or 351- measure across the engines intake manifold center to center on the hold down bolts. A 302 will be approx 7 3/8" across a 351 will be approx 9 1/4" Don't believe any Correct Crafts between 1971-1994 were ever marketed or labeled as SS or Super Sports FYI
302-
351-

Ok quick trip to the garage and quick measure says 9 1/4 so that makes it a 351. Thanks very much like to know what I have. It also is same as picture on right where the carb mounts on intake is a flat surface.

Here are the http://www.correctcraftfan.com/reference/bview.asp?id=10#image3" rel="nofollow - brochure spec's for the 73 Skier.Tim (TRBenj) who is a Skier owner will know for sure but I'm thinking if it has National Tow Boat on it 1- is not a Skier or 2 it was added. Skiers were a basic no frills ski boat built to keep the price down. The Skier brochure does not have a 351 listed as an option but that said if you wanted a 351 in it they would do it.

Now at home looking at your avatar and diary you have a Ski Nautique,so that would have a 351 in it. A Skier is a whole different boat

ok lol from what I was told and believe the man I bought it from. It was one of 3 ss boats that correct craft built for events. He bought it from owner of correct craft and baby her til I got it from him a year or so ago she is original gel coat with no repairs that I can see. Any one ? I really like to know what I have even tho there no amount of money that going to take her away from my family. I gonna be buried in her if son not step up to the plate.

I wouldn't call PCM's an upgrade, they're just readily available. Good time to change exhaust hoses plus I'll bet they'll be too short.

Andrew, You mention the crack but didn't say where the crack is. Inside between the water jacket and exhaust cavity or just the outside wall? Did you pressure test the manifold to determine the extent of the crack? Gary linked Crow Custom Cast and they are pros at repairs especially if the damage is internal but if your crack is external it may be an easy fix. The crack could be brazed or some have even epoxied their crack years ago and the epoxy is still holding. Why replace the manifold if there's a potential for a repair plus keeping it original? Fill us in, do some testing if you haven't already, keep it original and stay away from becoming just another "parts changer"!

The crack is on the outside is about 4 in long and runs into one of the drain plugs. I been a yacht captain for many years and we use a product called splash zone 2 part epoxy base sets even under water. Maybe I grind it out a bit and give her a go. I could run the boat the way it is it barely a drip every 20 seconds. I agree with keeping it stock engine looks pretty damn good and never seen salt water. Will give her a go this weekend and report back.

Andrew, Sounds like a plan with the epoxy. Yes on grinding the crack and I also suggest drilling a very small hole at the end of the crack if you can find it. Plus, go all the way with the grinding into the thread of the drain plug. You can run a pipe tap in to chase the threads after the epoxy sets. When you put that plug back in, don't overtighten it. Just use plenty of thread compound (no on Teflon tape since it makes it too easy to overtighten). BTW, overtightening that plug may be the source of the crack???

Yes I was thinking drain plug caused it. I noticed a small crack line in the paint on exhaust when I purchased the boat. kept a close eye on it and it never leaked until now.

ok wise guys sense you all have nothing to do. Question Did Milford make the trailers for cc in 1973 ? My ski nautique is sitting on a mildord trailer and is probably best trailer I ever towed around. Just wondering if was the original or had been replaced?

Skipper LMAO thanks wonder how the hell my boat got on this trailer I am sure it was a single axel and the old owner set it on a tandem. Kinda sucks but is what it is being that I going to send it in for blasting and a new powder coating. Were all the trailers white or could you get colored ones ? Do not want to show up with a pink trailer and get laughed at.

The baby moons and the whitewalls are the shizzle on that trailer!! One thing on the tandem's is be sure that trailer is dead level or very slightly tongue high when towing, really important for the wear/tear of all things moving. If it was my trailer would paint white to match the hull.

Yeah I hear ya. Sure I will end up powder coating whole trailer white. Other options are the red color off the rims or the blue off the logo. Rims and tires came with the boat and get a lot of comments good and bad.
